Let the fest begin!

URL icon « on: May 30, 2014, 09:55:19 AM »

Oh, I hate talking about this as much as you hate reading, but can't we do SOMETHING about how the tarp line STARTS every night?

Seems like whoever thinks it's a good time on Wednesday to set out the first chair gets to be first in line for the rest of the fest.  If that's true, I'm setting a chair out tonight!  Seems STUPID to do things that way (and tho I'm well-known for my stupidity, I'm trying to keep it to a minimum these days).

Last year there were chairs set up Wednesday MORNING.  Come on, let's figure something out!

Here's one idea.  Everyone who wants to be first in line for the Thursday run has to show up with their chair at, say, 10:00 pm on Wednesday.  Everyone gets one playing card per chair.  Then we shuffle another deck and randomly call out the cards.  The person with the first called card has a seat, and the usual "gotta be IN the chair or we move it" rule applies.  If nobody has that card (there's usually not 52 people THAT interested in being first), another is drawn.

Repeat that every night at the designated time (first song of the last act) and that way EVERYONE has a chance to be first.  Plus everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the 8pm artist without worry.

OK, that's just one idea and I'm sure YOU might have a better one or a way to improve this one.  But isn't it about time we do something simple to alleviate the problem of "first chair Wednesday = first chair everyday" and to eliminate the need for people to start chair sitting when they should be enjoying the music???

Hey Bro,

are you just a troll trying to stir the pot?  First with the tickets and now this?

This subject has been beaten to DEATH!

I sure hope no one responds to this.  I would be the Planet has a thousand other things to worry about than this.

There are plenty of un-used tarps and chairs throughout the day, plenty of close-up space for all

I'll respond to say, "play nice."

If you don't like the subject, no need to respond.

...especially no reason for name calling. There are plenty of other discussion forums online with that nonsense.

I expect a higher baseline from you, erndog...

John's idea of coming up with a community minded solution by those who are in line is an interesting one. I hope it works out...

Cheers

Disagreeing respectfully is very Festivarian. Calling out and calling names, not so much. Personally, I agree that the system has its flaws. Most do, and all up, clearly the festival of year. Nonetheless, seeing chairs on the way out at 11:00 that have been there since noon is a little disheartening.  Diversity of opinion= a good thing, but best to keep it kind methinks...

 The Dude

I've been called worse.  And that's just from others in my FAMILY!

But, in the words of Lyle Lovett, you've gotta TRY:  "Look, I understand too little too late. I realize there are things you say and do you can never take back.  But what would you be if you didn't even try.  You have to try!  So after a lot of thought, I'd like to reconsider.  Please, if it's not too late...Make it a cheeseburger!"

And if nobody cares about trying something different, that's fine with me:  My chair is already in line!!!!

Lyle also said fat babies have no pride.

Something different...hum. Like what? As long as its a line, lets get creative about it.

Only people build in fairness John. There are different levels of concisness and kindness.. Ever see that gal in the store that blocks the isle so no one can move....she knows your there waiting but she just makes you wait...

People are funny and rules are broken every day. Guidelines are in place and set and when you deal with mass all you can hope for is persuasion. Hows my spelling? LOL
