I have a couple questions regarding the whole tarp run. 1 is that does this happen every morning? I would like to participate but don't know if I will be able to get up early Thursday after Yonder kickoff.

Also I see on the videos online that some people have pretty massive tarps. Is that generally how its done, and are people particular about their tarp space during the fest?

The Tarp Run is great fun! But it's also fun to simply watch from the sidelines. The worth really depends on how many people are coming with you. I came for three years with a group of 3, and we never participated. We were always able to find a spot to park our chairs for a set or three. People are incredibly willing to share their space, especially if you buy them a beer or load them a bowl or just have great conversation. I didn't start participating in the run until I joined a group of 20 or so that wanted to hang together every day.

i camped for the tarp run and found that experience to be not worth the upgrade in real estate, i mean, you are sitting in a line instead of playing in the night campfire jams, seeing nightgrass etc.  i still got pretty good real estate getting in line at 8:30 each morning.  in the long run, for the bands you are particularly excited for during the day, you CAN move up and sit in empty spots up closer as T-ride has the policy that if there are empty seats, anyone can sit in them til the owner gets back.  i saw the steeldrivers front row one year after having gotten in line at 8:30am.  then went back to my spot to relax and listen to a band i didnt feel as passionate about.

  The tarp run can be fun depending on your energy level. We use to get in line about 2 A.M. but as the years go by we adjust, Hot Sugar ran for us a time or two because I always wanted up front. However the sound is outstanding farther back so maybe the tarp run is an add on we don't need anymore.

 However Hot Sugar if your feelin frisky let me know I have a special tarp spot I love ! I think after a few more years we should do a tarp crawl

Advantage is a skill and game but can be overrated. Depends.... on you and your needs.

See there...that's just a rookie mistake.    Best way to get up is to never go to sleep.   It's less painful.

I am SO excited.  Friday I packed my big duffel (tent,sleeping bag,etc) and gave it to my buddy that will be driving out for Town Park landrush. Picked up my Nightgrass tickets at the post office on Saturday morning. Sunday I worked on my bus and listened to the 2010 house band bootleg and got MORE excited...
(I know "each day in life is precious" but frankly i am ready for these next 36 'precious moments' to be over with so I can head to the airport!)

I guess we'll just have to wait until then...lots of other good music gonna git played fore then...good regional bluegrass festival in CO at Bluegrass at the Fair down in Pueblo at the end of the month.

lol @ the weather being any better in Telluride! ... the endless winter continues

There's been more snow this year than last & it's also been more consistantly cold ... so my suspicion is that snow will linger at higher elevations come bluegrass time, even if there's a prolonged warming trend.

That's great !! I'm going on one of those photo jeep tours up in the mountains of Telluride. Get some snow pics in June  . CAN'T WAIT!! I see on the webcam its still winter there . WOW!!

i was hoping to climb one of the wilsons this year while i'm out, hope you are wrong!  but i don't think you are unfortunately.

Late snowmelt means higher water. Bear Creek, Bridal Veil and the San Juan will be more spectacular. Last year it was pretty dry. And the water will be good and cold. Can't wait to dip the old feet into the San Juan after a good hike!

I have climbed Wilson, Sunlite and Windom and it was a great push. I think the way the weather is lookin this planet is going to go from 1 to 100 in June so not so sure about it being to wet. The weather patterns suggest we are in for a very hot summer.

Oh yes! Great point. Bridal Veil was pretty tiny in 2012 (completely subjective opinion), thought it looked better last year. Here's to a great view of a mighty water fallin' in 2014!

FWIW - If I think I'm sick of snow, my parents live up on the side of Mt. Evans @ about 9,500 ft. They're SO ready for summer.
