Though I understand having to make room for the new bands, I am of the opinion that the Dusters, along with Greensky, should be an annual fixture as much as Yonder at this point.

I agree!  huh

I'll always love Yonder, good group of fellas that put on a fun show.  However, when we're talking about being blown away and/or just PURE level of talent, the Dusters are vastly superior to Yonder.  This may sound sacrilegious, but I'd like Yonder's annual TBF spot to go to the Dusters from here on out.  For me, Yonder's at the point where they need to start earning an annual spot, instead of just accepting it as an inevitability.  No disrespect intended, but they seem too comfortable and need to step up their game.  Too many great bluegrass acts out there these days to just hand a spot to Yonder.  Just an opinion.  Either way, the festy looks like a blast!

I agree, love Yonder, but the Dusters are it!

I sure hope they are! Waiting for them to be added to Delfest too. They are coming to Cleveland this Friday! 10 minutes from my house! Sooooo excited!  Wave Cheers

I'll be missing TBF for the first time in a while this year but will be at The Beachland on Friday.  Gotta get some bluegrass somewhere!

Sorry I didn't see this before the show Rob, we could have had a beer and I would have invited you to my after party, which lasted till Sunday...  Wave Cheers

I won't keep quoting everybody. Everyone makes good points. I do not think Dusters should replace Yonder. I love Yonder and always am blown away at their shows. They are a different kind of band than the Dusters, so we shouldn't compare. I think we all just really wish Dusters could be a yearly fixture, along with Greensky and Yonder. We understand you have to make room for new acts, but their presence last year was so strong we all expected them back this year. They aren't at Delfest either, which really sucks. I think they deserve to headline there, at least on the Thursday opener.

 huh Wave Cheers

Do we really have to CHOOSE between the dusters and Yonder?  It's not like rooting for both the Cubs AND the White Sox...I like BOTH.

The one thing I REALLY like about the Dusters is that they don't think that every instrumentalist should take a lead part in every song.  Most bluegrass bands don't follow that, thinking that we need to hear a fiddle lead, then a guitar lead, then a mando lead, then a dobro lead...IN EVERY SONG (kinda like the campfire circle songs that go on and on so everyone can play).   I think the dusters want us to enjoy the song itself.  (Plus they harmonize really well.)

But you can't beat the energy level of Yonder.  If there's a rock and roll version of bluegrass, them is it!

So to me it's not Yonder OR Dusters.  It's both.

 Rolleyes really?

Stringdusters are playing The Independent in the WEST (San Francisco) on April 19. Yonder just played the Fox in Oakland this weekend. Greensky has sold out the Fillmore in SF the last two times (and perhaps the Troubadour).

Either you need to get out of that wondrous area of LA/Pac Palisades or get a new definition of the west.

LOL!! I guess I have to be more specific when I say the west . I see all the time that bluegrass bands play S.F. !!That's about 6 hour drive for me . Yonder has played the House of Blues a couple of times in Hollywood . I'm just jealous of the mid-west . You guys get Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas and all the big hitters . That's why I go to Telluride every year . Thanks for the reality check Billy.

Hey Stevens!

I know all about the (lack of) scene in SoCal/LA. I started going to TBF back in 2001 when I was living in Manhattan/Hermosa/Santa Monica through 2003. I was back east in DC from 2004-2010 and the bug was planted around 2009 that I had to live in that magical land of Colorado.

I made it to Boulder in 2010, had to leave in 2012 for San Francisco (oh...so horrible  Wink) and am moving back to CO in a few short weeks.

I highly recommend landing/living in the land of FESTIVAAAALLL!

Shoot me a PM and we'll gladly introduce you to Crunchy Frog in Town Park this June!  Cheers
