I'm looking for some advice on staying in Mountain Village. We have a group of 6 as of now that want to go all four days.  How early do you have to reserve a place? Good/bad experiences? Prices?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wave

Telluride Bluegrass Fest -- 2011

Check VRBO.com.  There are many properties available for TBF.  Recommend making reservations no later than late January.  Actually, as soon as you get ticket confirmation, start searching for lodging.  We've stayed in Mtn Village 3 or 4 times over the last 8 years.  Prices range from around 210 on up/nite depending on property and amenities.  I think you can make reservations up to 6 months out.

The trip from the Mtn Village parking garage gondola station to the fest is about 40 minutes; so keep that in mind if folks are going to want to traverse back and forth during the day.  Time may be a bit longer if there are long lines at the gondola station in Mtn Village Center .. but its never too bad..maybe another 15 minutes (late morning usually has a bit of a line).  Mtn Village has a shuttle that will get you to the gondola as well as various eateries in the town.  The Lodge at Mountain Village (where I've stayed) has many units which are rented out by private owners and its a 10 minute (if that) walk to the Gondola station.

With 6 folks, you'll probably want a 3 bedroom condo/townhome.  You should be able to easily find lodging in the 3-4 hundred/night range, which isn't bad at all for 6 folks.  I'd definitely recommend staying in Mtn Village and spending the additional monies it would cost to stay in Telluride proper on local businesses in Mtn Village and Telluride.

Hope that helps.

Well, we stayed at the Lumiere this year, our first time staying up the Mountain and other than the cost, significant, and the requisite Ganjala impacts to the overall Festivarian experience, we enjoyed the facility and the overall experience.

Forget nightgrass, unless you are comfortable leaving mid-way through to get in line for said transport.

Likewise forget Tarp Line and placement, unless you are willing to take a number in the high 400's range.

I'd say there are a number of options for a 6 pack though and booking early probably will save some money. We went through Mountain Reservations
