Try downloading two free programs from download.com. The first is utorrent, the second Format Factory.
When you click on a torrent on bt or cotapers or wherever, tell your computer to have it opened by utorrent. That program will download the files to the folder of your choice.
If you want to keep those files as flacs, you're done. But if you want to make CDs or get them loaded onto your ipod, Format Factory can convert them for you. Open FF and open "options". There you can tell the program where you want your MP3's stored (I keep mine in the same folder that they downloaded to). Next click on "all to mp3" and "Output setting" There you can increase the bit rate to, say, 256 for better quality. You can then label that setting as "custom". Go back to the front page and hit "All to Custom" whcih has magically appeared. On the bottom right, click "add folder", then browse to find your file. Hit the next 3 "OK"s and you'll be back at the front page. Hit "start" and in about 5 minutes your files will be converted.
There are hundreds of ways to get your torrents open - this is just the way that I figured out. Hope it workd for you!
