I'm going to leave out nightgrass shows (even though the Dusters nightgrass was by far the best show I saw all weekend) because I don't want one band appearing twice in my top five.

Starting with the best

The Infamous Stringdusters - These guys are the best band in the world today. I wish they had been given a longer set so they could really jam and I was quite pleased when they played past their scheduled end time.

Steve Martin - After music, comedy is my biggest love, so to mix the two so flawlessly was areal treat. I was hoping he'd be booked for this year anyway, so I was not disappointed when he was announced. Great music and a great performance.

Leftover Salmon - The second best band in the world today with some excellent guests. The ending number with Tim was one of my favorite songs of the festival, and not just because he sang about Crunchy Frog!

Greenksy Bluegrass - While not as technically proficient as the Dusters, these boys are pushing the string band genre further than it has ever been pushed before and this was the best set of music I've ever seen them do.

Elephant Revival - Blew my mind. I had not seen them before, though I had heard them. I can't wait to see them again. What a great way to start a festival.

Honorable Mentions - Sam Bush (best set I've seen him do), String Cheese (exactly the old school show I was looking for. However, it upset me that they ended early. Any of the other bands playing would have loved that extra 15 minutes, so it seemed really disrespectful to not use them), Masters of Bluegrass and Richard Thompson.

I have to say, of all the festivals I've attended...........the SCI crowd was the least respectful of other festivarians!  So glad PB didn't make a bigger deal out of them.  Loved the SCI music though.  Too bad about their followers.

-the tim o'brien set...i love tim and his band was perfect
-the old joe>celebrate>rider>old joe during sam's set. LOVE!
-lake st dive was a new, fun surprise
-MOB-i had listened to a few of their recordings of recent shows and wasn't impressed but they did a great job and played ROCKY TOP! woo!

I don't know if you can accuse all of a band's following of being rude.  In reality, SCI draws a much younger crowd than say a Richard Thompson, Peter Rowan, Emmy Lou or Rodney Crowell.  And many of today's 18-28 year olds who attend shows are rude, egotistical, entitled, on something, and without many socially redeeming qualities.  It's more of a generational moral/value gap problem than a SCI fan base filled with delinquents.  Glad you liked their set though!

I heard plenty of yakking regardless of which band was playing and most of it was coming from those considerably older than 18-30. YMMV!

Loved Rodney and Emmylou -- to hear EmmyLou harmonizing with Rodney on (opening number!) Return of the Grievous Angel was sublime...gave me goosebumps....Gram was smiling somewhere.

My two other favorite moments.

Punch Brothers doing Beach Boys harmonies on that track from Smile!  What can one say?

The dobro breakdown on Jackson Browne's Take it Easy.....

Dusters were magnificent and played a wonderful festival set.  The Elks Park set was fantastic -- a Telluride treasure.

Punch Brothers - a fine and rollicking Elks Park set.

Elephant Revival - I had seen them before put was impressed by their sound and how full it seemed this time around.

YMSB - a very fun festy set.

Steve Martin/Edie Brickell - she has a magnificent voice.

Sam Bush - excellent and fun.

Trampled - fun and better than I remember (maybe it was the setting, or the marsh-mellows!).

Bela - incredile solo set.

Emmylou and Rodney Crowell - an amazing pairing.

Nightgrass/Greensky -- we ain't takin' no *uckin' set break -- 3 hours straight of mind bending music -- outstanding.

Oh yes -- and everything else!

That Johnny Clegg cover was a festival highlight for me, as well. They knocked it out if the park!

-All three sets by the Stringdusters were amazing and perfect for their respective settings.  (Though I was a little perturbed at the people sitting during the NG set.)

-STEVE MARTIN!!! I cannot lie, I was disappointed when he was not on the initial line-up with SCR, and while I would have loved to see the Mumford gents, I was ecstatic at his addition.  Does anyone have a set-list??? Did the play "Women Like to Slow Dance"? I don't remember...If this did happen does anyone have audio/video? 

-Bela's solo set was fantastic and magical

I was standing 4th row center and was asked to sit down during the first set of the Palm show. I know everybody paid for a ticket and that it was late after a long day, but I can't help but feel like that's poor form. I don't mind people sitting, but I was standing because people in front of me were standing too -- I don't quite get the logic of asking us to sit. Kind of pissed me off, to be honest, but I got over it and they ended up moving anyway.

I wish I had been up and dancing with everyone, but a pulled quad kept me sitting in the back. Amazing show. I'm listening to it right now.
