Old Crow and Devil Makes Three would be outstanding.

A quick web check and I see Gillian Welch and David Rawlings aren't busy that night...go get'em, Planet!

Railroad Earth doesn't have anything scheduled next weekend...  PLEASE!!
Oh my stars that would be the way to go, they are awesome.

I'd actually welcome the chance for them to redeem themselves.   Last time they were at TBF they were a total snoozefest for me.  That was disappointing, since I used to jam to From Good Homes back in New Jersey, and was jazzed to see them.

Was listening to REK tonight, regretting him not being in Telluride.  Go get him, PB!

I know the Planet will make something happen, but there are an awful lot of great musicians already in town who LOVE to play on that stage. It seems more likely that any one of them would be up for an extra set, or some kind of "special guests" performance. What about Sara Watkins (or Sarah Jarosz) jamming with Salmon, Yonder or Greensky, and maybe Sam Bush? Would Chris Thile join in? Etc.

I love the Trey Anastasio idea, or even Phish, the Allmans--and a last minute show would keep the ticketless hordes at bay--but it's a pipe dream. Getting a short notice show from a band (like RRE, for example) is a logistical headache. Do-able, but possibly costly.

It's much more likely we get a shuffled schedule and an awesome extra show from one of the already-present acts.

One thing is for sure: trust the Planet. They've got us covered.

Old Crow is the best we can do? Or another version of the Telluride House Band? Lets think big here...Paul McCartney or Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers??

I'd be blown away if Paul were to appear, but someone should pull the needle out of your arm  Cheers

My guess is that M&S had a relatively affordable "cost to firepower" ratio (regardless if one is a fan or not) given they were catapaulted by the TBF in the first place and perhaps felt a sense of allegiance to the festival and promoters.

Replacement cost of that level of perceived firepower on the open market might far exceed what PB had anticipated or would be willing to pay out.  Think of it in terms of "totalling" your favorite car which ran exceptionally well but you'd only get about 1/2 the cash from your insurance company needed to buy a new replacement car you'd be equally happy with.

On the other side of the coin, it is the 40th and there has been a BIG hype .... and perhaps DVD's / other 40th anniversary merch are just waiting / needing to be sold far and wide.

So, if I had to guess: in light of the possible financials at play, there's plenty of talent in the existing pool who could put something together at an actual replacement cost which still makes everyone happy.   Similarly, there are many acts (not currently on the lineup) which have a very strong & broad appeal in the TBF circles which aren't "mega stars" who wouldn't demand top $.    Then again, maybe there's some serious favors or horse trading taking place behind the scenes???

Regardless, I do wish the bassist with M&S a speedy recovery and send {{{{{healing vibes}}}}}}

As long as it's NOT the Lumineers we'll be all right.  After they move SCI to headliner Thu slot, I'd like to see them add Jason Isbell or Blitzentrapper for that mid-day Fri set.  The Lumineers and the 10 year old, who clearly writes their lyrics, can come as students for the Songwriting Workshop.

Regardless, Trust PB to find a good addition and that they'll be warmly received by the crowd for stepping up last minute.

I'm with everyone else. OCMS and The Devil Makes Three would be a dreamy addition!!!! I would also LOVE a Nickel Creek reunion...they're all here anyway. I am sure Sara's brother Sean will around as well to make the trifecta.

And please no Tom Petty. Planet Bluegrass, don't do me like that. This is a bluegrass festival and I won't back down. No, but serisouly.

chris thile, stuart duncan and edgar meyer are already in town, so how about flying yo-yo in for a goat rodeo session? they are touring, gonna catch them at the berkeley greek in august.

maybe now is the chance for leftover and/or cheese to get a late night at the sheridan as well.
