what's up with the festival this year.  i haven't seen any new news concerning it other than the dates, and that's actually old news .  I look forward to the Mabon  and it's gathering of like minded celtophiles with it's great music, wonderful venue and a friendly laid back crowd.  will there be a festival of  Mabon this year, who's performing?  anybody know?

A celebration of the Mabon will happen this year...it will just be scaled back.

More than likely, it will be in conjunction with our fall Wildflower Pavilion concert series.

I promise I'll let you know more details as they become available to me. Flower

Due to the relatively short time I've been out here in CO, personal scheduling issues, and clashing festivals, the Mabon has been my only trip out to Planet Bluegrass! We met great folks, relaxed, drank too much, got some incredible music (TOUBAB!), and enjoyed that ultra-small fest vibe. My girlfriend and I had a blast last year and she was REALLY looking forward to it again this year. Hopefully it's not TOO scaled back...  huh Frown

I have to admit, i'm really disappointed that there's no actual fest this year.
I lovelovelove Celtic music and i've had a fantastic time at previous Mabon's i've attended. The concert that's going on instead is really good musicians, just not ones i'm personally hot to go all the way up to Lyons to see.

Was there just not enough attendance at last year's or previous Mabon's?
Will there be a full-scale Mabon fest next year?
If there's a mini-show next year, will it be actually Celtic in content?

Anyone? Anyone?

*hopeful*

To be quite honest, I don't have a definite answer to any of these questions.

We love the Mabon, too. It's a great time for us to blow off some steam from the intense summer full of the larger and MUCH busier festivals.

However, as you noted, the attendance for Mabon was never off the charts. I realize that is why many enjoyed the festival, but it takes a small army for us to open the festival grounds entirely, and produce a full day of music from the main stage. Obviously, those two don't go hand in hand.

Will there be another "full scale Mabon"....I don't know. Much of this year's decision was based on the new Pavilion and our excitement in starting the Wildflower Pavilion Series. The construction of the pavilion took a great deal of time and attention, and we felt that including a "special show" with a dinner, a bonfire, etc...would suffice in our annual celebration of the Mabon.

I have no doubt that Planet Bluegrass will continue to celebrate the changing of the seasons, and Mabon will continue in some fashion in the future. What that future is to be is still a mystery.

Cheers

Dustin

You killed Mabon.  Now it's a just another Saturday night concert with half a band.  That leaves all of the 300 or so loyal Mabon fans without a reason to give you our money in exchange for a whole lotta' fun.  It's a lose-lose situation.  Bummer.

Pickin' is NOT Celtic music.
I understand it's planet bluegrass, but please don't assume that all Celtic fans = bluegrass fans.  I'll really miss the fest - it was the last great day of summer.  We were there for year one (OMG, I only waited 25 years of my life to see the Waterboys - THANK YOU!!! Flower), and right through, bringing more and more friends each year.
I hope you all have a good day this year, but we'll have to go find other things to celebrate the passing of the season.  Frown

And I'll guarantee now that Ben Kaufman will be sporting his kilt! Wink

by pickin', I mean that we are going to have some Irish/Celtic session musicians around the planet...which will hopefully lead to a Irish/Celtic jam/pick.

...if that helps at all. Flower
