never really listened to mumford. watched them on the grammys the other night. meh. they seem like a pop 40 band that happens to have a banjo player. please no mumford.
how about bringing lyle lovette and his large band back. in my humble opinion he was the best act of 2009. never seen lyle before, it took me about a week to pick my jaw off the ground. he and his band are some very talented musicians.
MEH? LOL

Lyle still knocks my socks off. I could see him a zillion and he would still have that effect. Smooth, Professional. Land O Lakes......... Medal

Please no Mumford.

Especially with the amount of hype for this announcement, a lot of people will be disappointed if they announce Mumford. Except the hipsters of course.

Please, Mumford.

I have my TBF-XXXX ticket so I won't be disappointed when/if they announce Mumford and Sons and hopefully The Goat Rodeo.  Medal

I don't get it when people write about other's opinions and hopes. Who's in that lot? Not this 50+hipster. They don't have to go if they're so disappointed, right?

That said, let's put a last minute appeal in for a solo performance by Chris Thile. I know a lot of people will yawn at this but it's really Chris at his best in a lot of ways and not that many get to see it or that often.

It will not play on the main stage and Elks Park is not quite right either. The Sheridan won't work because of obvious conflicts, so....

A special show at the Nugget Theater? Pretty please...

fwiw, the LOS tourdates page now has all 4 days of TBF listed: http://leftoversalmon.com/site/tour/

Is it typical for a single band to play all 4 days?  (In this case I'm glad!)

I imagine they've listed all four days because they're going to be at the festival all four days. Vince, Drew, Andy, Greg and Jose like to festivate as much as the fest of us. They'll probably do a nightgrass show and I'm sure that you'll see members of Salmon guesting almost every day.

my bet: Rhonda Vincent

bluegrass 2013 artist of the year. plays in Utah on 6/15. Goes back east on 6/23. Her 6/21 is listed as 'tentative' at her website but no details. What a stage for her pipes. playin a lil with Sam on the 40th anniversary. it would be good!

so in the interest of fairness we listened to some mumford last night. while i would not be disappointed if they were indeed a headliner, i still believe there are much better artist that pb could get for the 40th anniversary.
they really do sound like a top 40 pop band, with a banjo player of course.

I spoke with Chris Thile when the Punch Brothers played in Oxford (UK) and he mentioned that he was doing a solo set and intimated that he was opening up the festival.

Not sure why the Mumfords are causing such a reaction. They're a great band live and are just one of many that are potentially  playing over the 4 days. No festival is ever going to please everyone with every single act but the that is one of the reasons why Telluride is such a pleasure to attend, nobody gives the artists a hard time when they are up they're playing and having as much of a good time as the crowd. Oh that and the crowd are always good and the food and the beer and the mountains...etc etc, certainly worth flying in from the UK for it (again).

Not sure why the Mumfords are causing such a reaction.

I agree, Oxford_Al - they're a good live band, a new part of the Festivarian family from when they were a band none of us had ever heard of, and a band that garnered a lot of positivity at that first festival they played (but which has turned downhill since they became so popular).

I think the chagrin about them being one of the "unannounced bands who could sell our Red Rocks" is the tone with which the Planet is hinting at who the remaining bands are -- I think there's some worry that PB is hinting at something extraordinary for the fest, while Mumford wouldn't be all that surprising to most of us.

This is getting strong reactions both from people who like them but feel their announcement wouldn't be worth the "hype" so far, and from people who flat out would rather they not be at the fest at all.
