My thoughts exactly.

I am hoping for the AVETT BROTHERS!

Now that's a realistic rumor. They can sell out Red Rocks, have a history, fit in, etc. Phuck those other rumors!

I would agree, but i am definitely not trolling here just relaying a text from a friend.

Now the whole text said telluride bluegrass, and dicks later.

So if it were to happen, I think it would not be part of a tour. most likely start the real tour the next week out east.

Also, yes for the phish telluride shows a couple years back, (man that was fun), there were plenty of ticketless.

But i really dont see that much of a turn out for one bluegrass set.

Like I said before, i am not going to believe this till i see it and even then im not sure i would believe it.

But stranger things have happened.

I think that "reality catalyst" might be a better description than "rumor."  The "source" of this rumor, who then created a thread about the open rumor, should probably have their festivarians cut off and placed in a jar, so that we may all restore our faith in the sanctity of blog threads about potential additions to music festivals.  On a more serious note, I was saddened to hear that SCI just disbanded over incessant questions about TBF.

Well you aren't really helping the conversation here either Bill.  Flower

The rumor, although a rumor, came from a reliable source that not only works for the festival, but has lived in the Telluride area for years. As far as I know, SCI has been confirmed. I find it odd that PB is simply waiting to announce until all tickets are gone, which isn't the most respectful route for diehard SCI fans. I wanted to hear peoples perspectives not get in a "he said, she said," digression...

Thank you Huckin' Fappy for helping to add a vet's perspective. I was looking for an active discussion on the pros and cons, as well as why PB is waiting for all tickets to sell out prior to making this official. Maybe you need a "reality catalyst" Bill...jus sayin'

For those of you worried about the SCI riff raff,.

I just got a text from my buddy in boulder who seems to get these things right and was told by someone who is def a player in the CO music scene, that one of the bands not announced will def blow your minds.

I am not going to believe this till i see it, simply because they have no history with the fest, but they do have a big history with the town, and its a big year for the band.

And they will  bring some phreaks to town no doubt.

Anyway you shake it, i am so glad to be going back to my favorite fest, its been way too long.

Now if you guys want to go after someone don't "shoot the messenger (i.e. original poster - OP)," go after this guy spreading blatant trolling rumors.

The band that is coming back to TBGF that will blow minds...is in fact....STRING CHEESE INCIDENT!!!

i've seen probably all 3 of phish's only acoustic shows before, both nights of the bridge benefit in 97 and fest8 in indio, not sure if they have done any others, so i feel like they could certainly pull off a great set of acoustic music. i just don't believe that it would be them but WOW if it is. i would be more likely to believe that widespread panic will do a wood tour type set then they would play red rocks the following weekend.
hopefully pb doesn't keep us guessing much longer.

The other "big name act" that can sell out Red Rocks is the return of Mumford & Sons supposedly...but that is from a different source which I will admit is more of a "reality catalyst rumor"

I'd buy this one, too.   But can we change things up a little, and maybe they could bring some friends with them?

Get over it... It's not abuse. Just a funny joke speaking to the millions of fan sites out there speculating about everything from what bands will be at festivals, to what color shoelaces Billy
will wear on a specific night.  He's contributing by adding humor to a growingly heated thread.

This will be my first TBF, and I've been monitoring the forums with great interest to see the additional band announcements.  But even with the current official lineup, I'm very satisfied with the range of talent that we'll be seeing in June!  Here are my thoughts on the rumors of the additional 2 bands:

- When the organizers first announced that the 2 additional bands are ones that could sell out Red Rocks, and that they wanted to wait until Thurs and Sun were sold out before announcing them, my first thought is that they must be bands with fans who travel and have a reputation for being a bit of a nuisance, i.e., one of the "jambands" (Phish, String Cheese, Widespread Panic, Furthur, etc.)  So the SCI rumor fits in that respect.

- I haven't seen SCI in about 12 years, so I don't know how much they've changed since then, but I'm pretty sure they have plenty of material that would satisfy the TBF crowd.  They don't lack in talent...I bet it's their jammy style and 20+-minute songs that turn off many of the pure bluegrass fans.   But even back then they had lots of songs that I simply didn't like.  All that being said, I'd be happy to see them again if this rumor is true.

- I have strong doubts that Phish will be one of the 2 extra bands, for many of the reasons posted by HuckinFappy earlier today.

It will not be Phish.  They are keeping the 40th to bands that have played before, not new bands.  Some really great newer bluegrass bands can't even get on the bill, so they aren't gonna throw in a band that has never played the festival before.  This festival isn't about getting the biggest crowd or having the lineup everyone is talking about----although a lot of years they do----it's about the tradition of bluegrass.

Cheese on the other hand has played the festival before.  Nershi even wrote a song about Telluride.  I wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't be disappointed.  These musicians love the festival and the people playing it just as much as all of us.
