OK Festivarians, I am hearing that 1 of the 2 "big name acts" yet to be announced is none other than THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT!?!?!!! Say it ain't so? Don't SAY?

Any truth to these rumors? Anyone from Planet Bluegrass shed some light on these recent revelations?

Not saying this is going to be the best thing for the festival, especially considering tickets are largely sold-out, but I would like to hear some of your thoughts.

I've heard the rumors, It is What it is What it is what it is.  I hope they get a slot as they have a nice history with the festival.  If they do play TBF, it would be nice to get a Telluride Conference Center show as well from the boys.  I bet this thread will make a lot of old school festivarians nervous. It isn't meant to make the old festivarians worried, although I'd like to hear anyones perspective on this. The tickets are almost sold out for the entire festival already anyways, but it will definitely increase demand exponentially for whats left and for the entire festival...

I'm old school, and it doesn't make me nervous at all.  I've missed 'em, and could use a little Cheese infusion.

But they'd better choose their setlist carefully.  As much as I've loved Cheese over the years, they can be as boring as Railroad Earth sometimes.    EEK!

Thank you HuckinFappy! This is exactly the sentiments I hope to hear!!! I love SCI and TBGF, although I would never want SCI or the fans to tarnish what TBGF has become and what it means to so many people. It is probably better PG waited for the tickets to be sold...I just hope it doesn't turn into chaos.

Completely agree on SCI choosing setlists too, their song selection of late has been uninspired and they better BRING IT for the (rumored) return to the Telluride stage. You are obviously wise to the Cheese!!!

As long as Andy Goessling is on stage, I don't see how RRE can be boring, but to each his own.

I'd be very much in favor of a SCI return to Telluride. Since their reunion, they haven't been quite up to the standards I'd expect from them, but I still very much enjoy them and would love to see them back for the 40th. Plus, if they're there, that increases the likelihood of Emmitt-Nershi or some Cheesey Salmon (as the OP so elegantly puts it).

How would SCI fans tarnish TBF?  Cheese fans are for the most part some of the friendliest and socially conscious people I've ever met.  We're not talking about Phish here.  As far as uninspired set-lists go, they only play 15 times a year or so.  What do you expect?

If people were hoarding tix for friends or peace of mind (or worse, to flip extras at a profit) when passes first went on sale, then unfortunately a late announcement of SCI will only reward their behavior and encourage the same sort of thing for next year ... since the bottom of the market won't drop out like it did last year as the festival nears.

Similarly, it's now clear to me the release of single day tix prior to the announcement of the full lineup also feeds into the frenzy of people wanting to "get in" & rewarding those who hoard by decreasing supply & effectively tightening demand.

SCI would have to really bring it to be one of the "big names" still slated. Otherwise, I'd feel like I was checking the boards several times a day for a disappointment.

I hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but I just don't get it. If someone wants to point me to a show or several to listen to as a mind-changed, I'm happy to listen and give them several hours of a shot, but I saw SCI with Phil & Friends in '01 and damned if they didn't bore me. Maybe it was the daylight, or maybe it was the guy next to me who barfed at 5:30 p.m. during the SCI set, but I'm not convinced by their albums and I wasn't convinced by that show.

Wave Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I just have to add here, ever notice that bands draw certain vains of fans, some like to slam dance so they find that vibe to do so. Each band carries a vibe they send off, almost like direction.

Yes I do have to agree here not the correct venue IMO. Flower

It could get a little dicey if SCI plays a nightgrass show as well.  One festival set by the Boys will most likely not add to the population of the town or disruption of the festival experience.  However, if they add a Telluride Conference center show/or at the Palm, then we may see an influx of people that are there just for Cheese.  If they do play a nightgrass show, it will be the hardest ticket to get.  You can bet on that! Cheers

Yea if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. Have tried to get into them, but just havent heard anything that I fell in love with.
