Tickets go on sale in a few weeks.  Should we expect a preliminary lineup soon, or has policy changed based on last year's craziness?

I don't think there was a preliminary lineup until after the onsale last year, if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure they announced a limited lineup right before tickets went on sale.

Last year's announcements were made after the tickets went on sale. I expect this year to be the same.

They may have done a name or two last year before the tickets went on sale (I don't quite remember), but nothing before the lottery.

Let me help you out here:

- Some acts that are there every year you can't wait to see
- some acts that are there every year you could live without
- Some really unexpected bands you're totally jazzed about that will blow you away
- Some really unexpected bands you're totally jazzed about that end up letting you down
- Some acts you've never heard of that you fall in love with
- Some acts you've never heard of, and you wish it had stayed that way

Sorry Brian, i couldn't keep it secret any longer  LOL LOL LOL LOL

Just to play devil's advocate  Evil ....

Some people who have either never been to the TBF or are simply motivated to attend (any festival) by the music lineup alone are put at a disadvantage ... since they're competing with:

1.)  A large segment of attendees who WILL attend year after year, regardless of the lineup, simply because it is the TBF and all that it entails.

2.)  The "hype" surrounding the festival generated over recent years has caused an influx of new people who are purchasing tickets in the same ways as #1, but without having experienced the festival ... just going on word of mouth.

3.)  Ticket hoarders / scalpers ... the degree of activity can be affected by #1 & #2.

Telluride Blues & Brews also puts tix on sale before announcing their lineup, but I've typically waited until the last minute with them (aside from last summer due to Phil's presence).   One could have a bigger beef with B&B in so far as their VIP tix selling out before the lineup is announced ... especially with the way the VIP section was a bit more obtrusive this year.  I suppose one could extend on this to look at the fact that it's a municipal facility (Town Park) which is being leased.  Even though everyone has an opportunity to gain access via a ticket purchase, it is nonetheless a glorified game of "Lets Make A Deal" (i.e. What's behind door #2?).

Breaking out of devil's advocate mode, one could easily look at past TBF lineups and note who's a "regular", semi-regular, and also figure out that there will be some joker's in the deck.  See HF's for full set of logical possibilities.

Just to clarify, i'll be buying my tickets immediately regardless of the lineup. I've been the last several years and can't wait to get back. I''m just eager to start getting exited about some specific acts.

Well, in that case, here....  Evil

Stuart (or Luke), Bela, Edgar, Sam, Jerry & Brian... and maybe, just maybe, Johnny C. Most play together on Sunday night (traditionally) and then sometime in the days before with their own line-up or bands! YIPPPPPPEEEEE!!!!!!

Excited yet?  LOL LOL LOL  I know I'm excited!!!

I'll take it even further.  If you are disappointed with the line-up, I wanna be first in line to buy your Town park tickets!!!

Based on their tour page, it looks like the Steep Canyon Rangers will be at Telly this year.  I don't know if they'll be with Steve Martin, but either way -- I'm happy!  Love those guys!

I've been lucky enough to see Steve and the boys a couple of times now.  But I'm actually hoping that if Martin is with them at T-ride that they get a Nightgrass slot by themselves!  The set they played at the Llama a few years ago was excellent (and cheap, too - $10!).!
