A simple request

PB powers that be, I have a "simple" request:

PLEASE book Mumford & Sons this year,
PLEASE announce it after all tickets have been sold,
PLEASE let them close out one of the days, or the festival, or SOH on Sunday night,
PLEASE let me get TP tickets and a good spot that day.

That's ALL I ask!

I agree with all of that, as long as you replace Mumford & Sons with Brandi Carlile, and SOH on Sunday night with not Sunday night.

I reckon Mumford and Son's are OK if you're in your 20's. Brandi Carlile, meh. Not sure who SOH is. But really, for the 40th there must be a New Grass Revival reunion. Not for one tune like they did at Merlefest a few years back but for one whole show and closing it out on Sunday night. For this old timer and the others who have been coming to TBF since the early days it only seems like the right thing to happen. It would be like the changing of the guard if you will. Then the younger more trendy bands can have the Sunday night slot for the 41st and on.

SOH is the Sheridan Opera House. I agree with NGR closing out Sunday night for the 40th. Even though I'm in my 20's, I hope to always have a bluegrass band close out Sunday night.

I don't usually participate in threads of artist wishlists for 2 reasons: 

1.  No matter what, the lineup will be great.  Yes, there will be some big hits and some small misses, but we can all count on a first-class concert experience.
2.  No matter what, I'm going!  You could have a Bee Gees tribute band open the fest on Thursday and the Bay City Rollers closing out Sunday night and I'll still be there.

Given that, I will say this:  Mumford sure does love playing TBF!

But if it's actually possible to get NGR together for the fest (reuniting the Beatles might be easier), I think it would be GREAT to not announce it.  Just list it as "Special Guests" to close Sunday night and let us speculate to the high heavens.

Exactly.  In 2010 I liked her set, but didn't necessarily think she was a good fit.  But it seems her band picked a little something up in Telluride.  Now they're perfect for Telluride.

Now it's one of my favorite records of the year.

I don't see any correlation between age and musical preference.  I'm 38, just for the record, and love Mumford, and I would certainly put them closer to bluegrass than say, Fogarty (and yes I LOVE Fogarty, just sayin').  I mean, Mumford often has a banjo, mandolin, and violin on stage at the same time.

That said, for me, the BEST part of Telluride is the variety.  No matter what "style" of Bluegrass you like, there is going to be a LOT of music you love.  Hell, the Monks ain't jammin on no banjos, but I won't miss their set.  And I don't care who's coming, because I know it will be the highlight of my year, and I WILL be ordering tickets the day they are available.

I guess Sunday night should be left to more traditional Telluride bands/house band, but I would like to see Mumford at night rather than an afternoon set-it just seems more exciting to me that way, with some lights and some further, um, inspiration.

Mumford and Sons really do know how to rock it out. I love every thing about them, pretty powerful....the way their sound is directed is really well done. Realy well done. A+++++. I always love bands that have a little bit of Theater, powerful to listen to as well as watch. Day, night, mid afternoon on a hot day when the sun starts to settle down, they will blend in well. Where is my lawn chair. Can we do this in the winter at the Ranch in Snowshoes????

M&S are good, but for some reason they just don't float my boat ... if I had to say specifically, it's due to lack of a dynamic and moving melodic overlay.    To me, they seem to be more of a rhythmic oriented band with some very nice arrangements vs. being extraordinary in the pure rhythmic sense.  So, as one who's never "gushed" over M&S ... they just strike me as being just another very good band with their own spin on things, but nothing over-the-top spectacular.   Perhaps it's just my particular taste in music, but do know many others who share my general take.  By the same token, there are obviously many others who share the OP's view.   One man gathers what another man spills.
