As far as the banjo contest goes, is it only open to "bluegrass" styled players, or can a clawhammer player enter as well?

You should enter it anyway. If they cant hang with the clawhammer, then they need to have it thrown in their face. I would love to see them get frantic when you begin playing clawhammer, and running around the stage to silence that infernal racket! I would get far more excited at seeing a clawhammer player in the contest than just another 3 finger  knockoff.
