I used to come religiously on the 9th, or the equivalent. I'm not sure how much of the blame for the growth of ABGAT I get, but I do remember all those peaceful years of being about the only person in Town Park, and certainly one of the only ones there for Bluegrass. That first 4-5 days until the Southern California crew would start landing in the Billy Zone was one of the highlights of every year.
Of course, those were also the years they didn't kick us out, and you'd still find a small pods of Camp Billy residents hanging around the Telluride/Ridgway/Ouray area on Thurs-Fri *after* fest. I used to tell folks I had a Timeshare on the banks of the San Miguel for 3 weeks every June
