I'd be OK with a mail-order system ... postal money orders are always available for those who don't have checks.  In fact, I believe the GD had required mail orders to only be postal money orders ... perhaps it's a way to remove the uncertainty of whether a check is going to clear or not.

Craig, thought it might be of interest to you:  here's a link to a very recent & interesting interview with Richie Furay:

http://www.archive.wbai.org/

... it can be played directly from the page above (at least for a couple weeks) about 1/2 down under the show titled "Morning Dew" on Sunday March 4 1:00am ... just have to get past the 7 minute intro.

John is correct. As a person who keeps the books for a few Companies I would agree .

I've been thinking the same thing in the back of my mind!!!!  hmmmm, what would be wrong with that?  seems so retro, but I keep coming back to it as a scalper defeating strategy.

Beats my idea of Willy Wonka-style "Golden Tickets" packaged into cases of New Belgian beer :)

Hey Jeff- I think that has some "possibilities"  LOL  Of course, it doesn't help us who don't drink beer....LOL

But, I've been saying let's go back to the old way for awhile now....  I think you really should consider it Ferg.

how interesting, John!  When the furious pace of this time of year and especially in the face of the zippin sell outs and the consequent "issues", as we try to see what is happening with nightgrass, elks park, etc....

I've been thinking the same thing in the back of my mind!!!!  hmmmm, what would be wrong with that?  seems so retro, but I keep coming back to it as a scalper defeating strategy.

HOWEVER, I truly am not convinced the scalper thing is as big an issue as some.  I kinda think some of those that got closed out last year got an early start and that as we scurried to get directly to festivarians about the "quick pace", that kinda spiraled a bit, if that makes sense.

Also, the check thing would probably pay for itself without the need for increasing ticket prices because we'd not have the visa charges and we'd "confirm" the ticket purchase only after checks cleared.

Seems old fashioned, but I've been debating this "approach" in my head.

But, lotsa weird stuff goes on in their that I try not to pay attention to.  :)

Certainly a "strategy" worthy of consideration.  I'm not seeing scalpers with a bunch of checking accounts, ya know? They have a room full of modems these days, not checkbooks.

Uh oh.  This means that I'm probably done with good ideas for the rest of the year.  I've been reminded that I only get one per annum.

Leave it to me to come up with an idea that doesn't even help me   EEK!

You could coordinate with some of the better acoustic stringed instrument shops and give away a ticket with every banjo purchase...that'd take care of a couple

One laptop, one Accounting Softwear pkg like QB and one good bookkeep .  Thats a small investment to clean up this ticket crunch.

Money orders, Cashiers Checks or Personnal Checks only. Clean and simple. Medal

Well, I must say that there are a bunch of "efficiency" issues on our staff about this approach...

All of us sure see the possible benefits of this and are working through the "issues"....

While we prepare to produce the best Telluride Bluegrass ever....

Maybe this has been addressed already, and is a totally re-worked discussion point (I didn't read the whole thread), but I will add my $.02, for whatever it's worth:

I have quite a few friends who are many-year veterans of this festival, every-year-goers, who are without tickets... and that stinks.

That said--  I did not try to buy tickets when they first went on sale.  I didn't even get them at the holiday price.  I was probably at least a month after they went on sale before I went to PB to get my pass.  And I had no problem getting a 4-day.  T

he camping has always been an In-Demand item, and even though the sell-out day has gone drastically earlier in the past two years, if you are getting your tickets relatively soon after it goes on sale, you shouldn't have a problem getting them.

I think, based on that, there is probably not a need for one to sign up at the Festival to get on a list for the next year's tickets; if you are committed so early to going every year, it still isn't a problem to get a ticket.

That said, I hope all who are trying to get tickets do!  I've been going to TBF since I was 11 and it is the best weekend of my year... EVERY year!
