Local quit the forum?  That doesn't allow him to delete the topic.  Telluride Tom or Deb n Ron, you can do it.  I haven't noticed mostly negativity.  The tarp size limit should be closer to 10x20.  
The sit on an open tarp is an important aspect of life many people do not get.  Are you your brother's (sister's) keeper?  Only so much as you can drop your guard and open up.  It is an important part of the festival to mill around, respect one an others space, and make friends, etc.  If someone you know is not comfortable with sitting on an others tarp, there is perhaps too much entitlement being given to private property?  Perhaps it is important for that shy, reserved, or "what" person to experience the freedom and view, and company up front?
When you participate in TBF you are getting into a family affair, on rented public property, which becomes private property for the week.  We share this property under the guidance and rules of TBF.  For a rule to be in opposition to the norm is bad for business?

Imagine TBF w/o tarps . . .only shade houses in the back.  Free fer all up front.  Although I often move the tarp to get my feet in the grass, I got me a little tarp love, in spite of my ideals.

While some are passionate, I don't sense negativity - regardless of what may or may not have prompted this thread.    Aside from recognizing a bit of a systemic imbalance & simply seeking to improve the overall experience for as many attendees as possible, I actually find the whole topic extremely fascinating; however, I can understand how some might feel worn out on the topic and some might even feel threatened in the sense of disturbing the status quo.

I don't think there's going to be a perfect solution and as I mentioned earlier, I think the current system is reasonable ... just as the way Blues & Brews' system is reasonable, but different (dancing area up front, poser pit (VIP) as a pie wedge with the point touching the center of the stage & angled off to the side).    I don't think anyone is suggesting to upend the basic framework, but rather make adjustments here or there.

Long are the days when you had to sleep outside overnight at Ticketron outlets to get tickets for a conert.  But for those of you who remember, toward the very end of that era ... they started issuing lotteries to discourage extended camping & the competition which invariably accompanied the scene.  So, it didn't matter if you showed up at 1am or 8am, you still got assigned a random number.   As much as I don't like to give credit to the ticketing monopolies, I think it serves as an example of tweaking the system to create a level playing field for as many people as possible.

I'm not a big fan either; however, I do look at it as a trade-off of sorts ... if you want to be up very close and dance at any moment throughout the day it's a lot easier vs. TBF, but it can also get very tight up front for popular acts & it's an odd sort of non-symmetrical layout.    Just saying, this is the way they opted to skin the cat ... which is also reasonable.

I really probably shouldnt do this.... but I'm feeling fesity tonight... But, since we are on the subject- how about we just ban Kelty's and allow EZ up's only? At least , they dont block the view, become dangerous airborne things, and dont have tie-downed corners that become really easy to trip on...

Amen, except they're items purchased for this event, when assembled as "locking" triangles the Keltys make some space saving sense.  I have to agree the easy-ups are more transparent.  Feisty, Festy could be a new word for the Fest dictionary, "going with it," is how I would define it.
