If you don't like something, change it.  Otherwise change the way you feel about it.

Yes, every day is a new day at Planet Bluegrass.
If you want a number, get in line every night for the tarp run line the next morning.  Every evening, after the last act, you must pack all of your stuff out of the festival grounds.  I think this is a fair way of doing it so that everyone has a shot at getting a good spot.

The " do it every day" part is just on for inside the festival proper, *NOT* for camping (including on-site camping.) You stay in your camping spot for the duration. Each day there is a new run for spots inside the festival grounds where the music is. This area is separate from the camping areas.

Hope this helps.

btw - RG was awesome and FF is going to be too!

You know, I've been watching this conversation start, stop, stutter and restart for the better part of 30 years. That includes threads on the good ol' Usenet rmgd and rec.music.bluegrass groups; those appalling Yahoo discussion groups "and all that Spam"; threads that didn't necessarily apply to Planet Bluegrass but still sound familiar to me to this day.

Our collective taste in music changes over time, but our competitive desire to score the best tarp location does not. I love the tactical discussions about proper tarp folding, sprint strategies, Red Bull vs Jaegerbombs, etc etc. It's a cultural characteristic we chronic festivarians share.

The Order of Urgency Scale for tarp runs for Planet Bluegrass events is as follows:

GrassCon1: Telluride with Rain;
GrassCon 2: Telluride without Rain;
GrassCon 3: Lyons When You Have to Run;
GrassCon 4: Lyons When Someone Else Has to Run;
GrassCon 5: Lyons When You Are the Last Ironically-Hungover Skinny-Jean-Musician-Guy

A few years ago my friend got the #1 ticket.  I told him he had to make the most of that.  So in the morning, only about 15 minutes before the gate opened, he casually strolled up towards the front of the line, held up his ticket, and said, very loud, "Hey, could somebody tell me where the person with the #1 ticket is supposed to stand?"   Evil   He got a lot of good-natured booing and ribbing.

TARP RUN: If you wish, you can wait in the TARP LINE each night to receive a number for the next morning.  Rules say not to line up before midnight, but people start lining up much earlier, especially on Thursday night.  You will see the line along the path from the driveway to the box office.  Sometime between midnight and 3am, PB people will hand out numbers.  The numbers are for the tarp run in the morning.  Festival gates open at 10:00 Friday morning and people with numbers get in first (in numerical order) and can only carry in one tarp.  They run in and stake out their spot for the day, then bring in their chairs and other gear later the same day.

If you don't want to do the tarp run, just line up with the other non-numbered people Friday morning.  You should still get a decent spot.  Every evening, you must remove all of your stuff from the festival grounds (NOT the camping area) and another line forms for numbers for the tarp run the next day.
