Let the fest begin!

How about a bunch of bands I've never heard of that have become favorites (ala Mumford, Cornmeal, Keller Williams, subdudes)?

And then at least one Big Name Artist that I would have never expected to see at a "bluegrass" festival (David Byrne, New Orleans All Stars, Sharon Jones)?

Then a few bands who haven't been back to T-ride for a few years but come back better than ever (Stringdusters, Steep Canyon Rangers, Decemberists)?

In other words, keep doin' what you're doin'!

Tea Leaf Green

Their new release "Radio Tragedy" is impressive.  They're more keyboard oriented than most jam bands, but I'd love to see them in Telluride.  Don't let the BeeGee-esque (yes, Bee Gees) chorus of "Easy To Be Your Lover" fool you- these guys display more musical influences on the first five tracks of this album than most bands do in a whole career.  Medal

how about we give mumford and sons some time off.......maybe they can tour some different stuff for a while then come back, maybe.

in the meantime, how about giving pokey lafarge and the south city three a listen.
i think the wood brothers on a thursday or friday night would be great!
of course, danny barnes, danny barnes, danny barnes......
larry keel, keller williams, lots of small bands hungry and on fire, ready to go!!

Speaking of Carrie Rodriguez (see my earlier post), just saw her in a couple of different TV appearances, playing fiddle in the band for none other than THE DUDE! - Jeff Bridges! His new album is actually pretty good.  Bring THE DUDE to Telluride!  He'd really tie the festival together!

One other suggestion The Jayhawks! They're releasing a new set this month!

I call The Goat Rodeo Sessions as a Telluride 2012 act:

Would be fun to see Abigail Washburn again! Check out her "tiny desk concert" at NPR:

I'll probably take a lot of flack for saying this, but I wouldn't mind a year without YMSB. Feel free to replace them with Leftover Salmon though...

Infamous Krewe!

We all know The Stringdusters killed it this year and I've been saying Toubab Krewe for 2 years.  Glad at least the The Stringdusters know what's up and have been doing shows with them for the past year.

And second to The Goat Rodeo Sessions, Yo-Yo Ma at Telluride? Yes, Please.  Thumbs Up

I'll share the flack.  Here's my blasphemous post of the year:

Skip YMSB...I'm sure YMSB is still a draw for a lot of people, but they don't light my fire anymore.  Skip them, and as much as I love Salmon, let's skip them too.  Skip Peter Rowan.  Let's let Tim O'Brien have only one set.  Can we live for a year without Chris Thile's Arteeeestic Endeavor of the year?  And (Sorry Tom), I love Emmylou, but I just can't pay any attention to her.

Fill in those 6 or so slots with some of these suggestions from the Festivarians.  Or let the Planet crew come up with their own....any team that has scored us Mumford (when they were unknown), Imelda May (can we have her back please?), Head and the Heart and Joe Pug the last 2 years (all bands I'd never heard of) is OKAY by me!

PB works hard at striking the balance between the old reliables and the infusion of new blood.  I've been hearing from folks that the balance is a little heavy on the old faithfuls.

The Waybacks

I like the core "old faithfuls", 'course I'm old and faithful and in the way.
