I don't love the idea of informing "those who post" first... Because while I am checking on nightgrass info regularly, I seldom post anything.

Hey all

 Wave

I just registered so I can post messages here.  I am bringing my family from NYC to the festival.  I am psyched big time.
And just like the rest of you I am looking forward to some Nightgrass action.  Woohoo!!!

Don't worry...that's just wishful thinking by some around here. LOL

Hey D,

Would we look under the Nightgrass More Info Link on the ticket sales web page?

And we'll get few days lead-in to the actual sale date, yes? Please?

As you can see, I'm gettin' nervous. Frown

Okay, we have a four day pass. Is that an AVP?

Nightgrass shows do not require festival tickets but tickets are sold separately on the Planet Bluegrass site....

I have a little to add to this......
Yes, Nightgrass tickets are separate from the festival, BUT, if you were to share news about these shows with folks that are not attending the festival there are a few things to consider before doing so.

First of all, where are those folks going to spend the night after the show? They CAN NOT stay with you in your camping space. Have a condo? That's different. Are they going to reserve a condo or hotel room in Telluride? Okay, but reservations should be made very far in advance of arriving in Telluride. Those folks CAN NOT sleep in their cars after the show. It is against code/the law/policy in Telluride.

Late night driving to and from Telluride should be something done with FULL CONCENTRATION. The musical high, euphoria even, after a Nightgrass show causes many folks to flash back to the venue, the best jam they've ever seen, the musical guest that came out of nowhere, for days, weeks and months. Driving after the show is not advised. It's just a buzz kill.  Flyer

Along the same line of transportation to/from Nightgrass...
These shows can run long, way longer than the 2 am "last gondola ride to Mountain Village". Can you imagine driving all the way up to Mountain Village, parking the car, riding the gondola to Telluride, hearing the last set of the fest finishing, getting into the Nightgrass venue, watching the show build to the greatness that is Nightgrass, jamming out like crazy... and then you look at your watch and see that you have 10 minutes to catch the gondola back to your car in Mountain Village.... BUT THE BAND IS REALLY GETTING HOT! and I CAN SEE SAM BUSH IN THE STAGE WINGS! and OMG! MUMFORD IS WITH JERRY D. AND BELA! OMG! I have to leave NOW????????

Don't do this to your friends. It's mean.  Evil

As Dustin alluded, the less numbers of folks that know about the Nightgrass shows, the better chance YOU have of seeing the show of YOUR dreams. These are the best dreams of FESTIVVVAAALLL!!! It's better to keep these dreams to yourself!  Thumbs Up

Wishing everyone the best of luck with the Nightgrass ticket hunt!

The AVP pass will swallow your soul.

Any chance we can revert this lotto system back to mail in?

Or perhaps a limited number of passes held at the Planet Bluegrass ranch box office?

I am good at sleeping (aka passing out drunkenly) in line......

I don't mind taking my chances with the masses, I figure keeping the doors as wide open as possible (apart from scalpers) will only underscore the fate of where you wind up later at night  ... which will be the place you're supposed to be.

IMO, "tethering" nightgrass tix to festival tix might undermine the "general availability" of bluegrass which keeps it open to as wide an audience as possible on several different fronts.   In reality, I don't think it's going to serve as a "backdoor" for people to flood up here and be "stuck" & cause problems.    First off, I think there's going to be a huge demand from folks who already have festival tix ... so the math of the situation will have it that the ovewhelming majority of NG tix will fall into hands of people who are already situated.   Of the remainder, I just don't see hoards of people winding up in Telluride without a place to sleep -- but with nightgrass stubs in hand -- tipping over cars on mainstreet at 4:40am & whatever else rioters do.

It's hard to fault anyone to want to increase their odds of getting NG tix, but would like to counter the notion of even considering "closing the system".   There are already too many closed systems in Telluride for my liking.

So does this mean you can only get to Telluride via the gondola?  As in theres no parking in Telluride?

You are correct.  Thumbs Up  A barricade is in place for all four days of Festivaasssal!  Only locals with a pass can get by.  There are shuttles as well as the Gondola to get into town from the parking areas.

Yo Yahtzee,

Once the festival starts the only way to get back into Telluride with your car is to have a special barricade pass (a sticker). These stickers are typically given to condo renters, towns folk, etc. Very limited supply of them so the bottom line is you can't come and go into Telluride proper with your automobile to see Nightgrass shows (or to see the festival).

So if you are staying in Mountain Village, then yeah, the gondola is the way to go and since it closes at 2am, it does mean that people may have to leave some Nightgrass shows early. If you are camping outside of Tride at one of the official sites then you need to make sure you catch that last shuttle home.

10,000 people attend the festival. The Sheridan holds what a couple hundred? Man, 99.9% of people seeing those shows either are attending the festival or live in town.

Ahh I see I see.

So if I have a hotel room rented in Telluride for said dates, then I should be good to go as far as getting my car into Telluride?

Also, from what I'm being told, the Official camp sites (I assume are Tower Park, Warner, Lawson, etc) are outside of Telluride, and if some of the Nightgrass shows run well past the last Gondola ride at 2am, how does anyone make it back to their camp site??

Sorry for the annoying Q's, just trying to make sure I don't have any surprises when I arrive.

Yahtzee,

you'd need to check with the hotel where you're staying to find out the specifics of the parking situation with that particular hotel.  but, yeah, you can presume you'd be able to park in town if you have a hotel room reserved in town.

re: campsite locations: warner, town park, and high school are located in town, but illium and lawson are outside of town--but shuttles service lawson and illium pretty close to the end of nightgrass shows.
