Ridgway Railroad Museum at Telluride Heritage Fest

Motor 1 The Ridgway Railroad Museum will help Telluride celebrate a chronologically short but rich cultural history this weekend, June 12-13, during the second annual Heritage Fest.

The Railroad Museum is an active participant in the festival: they are bringing a re-creation of Motor 1, popularly known as the Galloping Goose. The Goose will carry Festival-goers on 120 feet of narrow gauge track which will be laid in the street in front of the old rail depot, now the home of the Ah Haa School for the Arts. This may be the world's shortest passenger-carrying railroad line.

Listen to Karl Schaeffer's podcast to learn a little of the history of the Rio Grande Southern, the introduction of the railcars that became known as Galloping Geese, and Karl's efforts in the building of the re-creation of Motor 1.
