Good evening once again, Festivarians!
I see a few of you "tuned in" for the first whisper of the 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival; and, hope you've had enough time to check out Mumford and Sons. I was blaring the album on the way to Boulder again today. Hope you didn't play "Little Lion Man" blaring over your office desktop.
Did I mention we are PSYCHED to have them Sons playin Bluegrass? course.. you know that ... or they wouldn't be there....
OK, well, on with the show. The promised second band to be officially (I dunno, this might be kinda unofficial in a way, but official to me) announced for 2010 Bluegrass.
As mentioned last nite, we're thrilled with some of the new bands coming to Bluegrass.
There is, of course, a bit of a story behind this next one. Here I was, minding my own business on a friday nite, probably cleaning the house or chasing Maple around to try to get her to drop the sandwich, something like that.
I get a text.
From Mr. Tom Holmes. Holmes has been mixing our Front of House sound for a few years. He's a professional's professional. Stage Manager Skip Kent brought him to the show. They both work alot of shows in New York City, the big TV shows and all. Skip is the last guy to like "touch" the President, having miked him up for the big speech. He's also the last guy to hand Springsteen or Prince the microphone at the Super Bowl. I think, perhaps, Skip's most enjoyable moment of the year, though, just might be when he calls me, all nonchalant from the Miss Universe Pageant in like Brazil or whatever, just kinda chatting....
"How are ya?"....
"Hey Skip, I'm just fine, what's up?" He knows I get kinda fidgety in March and kinda likes to just say "How are ya" a couple times, until it dawns on me. By now, I start to look for his call in the spring, but he still seems to take me by surprise...
"Hey Ferg, doin good. Just down here in Rio, workin"....
"Oh, hang on a minute Ferg, this is kindof a tough one"....
pause...
"OK, I'm back. Phew. Damn that was tough to get a microphone on Miss Columbia...."
And, that's when I hang up.
OK, but this aint about Skip. Its about Holmes. Or his text.
Holmes and I often talk a little music as he sets up for the festival, always love to see what's on his Ipod and hear his war stories of all the big stars he's worked with in the past year. You know. All the big ones.
ANYWHO....
Still with me?
SO, this text...
NEVER got one from Mr. Holmes (that's what I call him) before. Of course curious.. and it says something like this....
"Ferg. I am in the city mixing this chick from Ireland and she is freaking taking the roof off the place. You HAVE to book her for Telluride." Again, I never hear from Holmes.
So, I of course have to check this out.
Couple days, couple phone calls and it was obvious; and....
the second artist to be announced for the 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival is....
wait for it....
scroll for it...
(ok you probably hate that part, but let a guy have a little fun)
Imelda May......
Rockabilly from Ireland???
Never heard of her????
Well, check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlO_6zkB4Dg&feature=relatedThinkin if she can take the roof off in "the city"...
Imagine what she'll do if she starts with the roof already off!!!!!!
Alrighty, there ya go, door number two.
I'm going to let Brian take over and introduce our third delectable treat tomorrow.
Only fair, its another one of his "discoveries", at least to me.
I've got to prepare for Early's 14th Birthday tomorrow. You'd think I would have gotten over my fear of cakebaking by now.
Hope you enjoy checking out Mumford and Sons and Imelda May.
I do believe we're going to have a burning solstice. Again.
Ferg Out (for awhile)
