Hey all, I'm really looking fwd to TBG. Been to the Strawberry music fest a few times and ready for a new experiance. Diving from nor cal. Il be camping at Lawson Hill.  looking fwd to meeting folks and and having a blast. I would like to get a hike or bike ride in if any one has a sugestion! Im also bringing my mandolin and hope to do some jammin.

I've been to Strawberry a few times myself, but Telluride is a lot different.
You're gonna love the diversity that's similar to Strawberry, and it may take you a while to take in the size difference. Wink

I suggest that you hike or bike up to Bear Creek Falls.  The trailhead is at the south end (downhill from the main drag) of Pine St.  It's relatively near the festival grounds and you can peek into the festival through the trees as you ascend.  Actually...you may want to just hike it unless you are really into biking and can do high altitude.  It's a pretty good uphill grunt but worth it.  It's probably the most popular hike in town.

the ilium singletrack trail starts right by your camping.  any local can show it to you.  check with one of the parking/camping attendants.

When are you leaving California? I'll be on Hwy 50 on Sat or Sun 6/16or17. Perhaps we can caravan.

Steve, if you aren't leaving CA until the the 20th, you are going to be late to the festival as it is  and you won't have time to get acclimated to the altiude before you take off hiking and biking...  or are you staying after the festival to do some of that? Cuz i was gonna say that you would be missing music.

so.. how long do you think it will take you to make the drive? (i am sure Hippie can confirm travel time for you. )

19 and a half hours from San Francisco IF you really get on it and in the groove.  Thumbs Up

It takes about 21 hrs with two people and a dog. I gaurantee you'll hurt the next day if you go directly through. Better to stop along the way and camp in a sweet spot.

In other words....
Plan on a 30 hour trip. Time to get a decent rest along the way, stops for gas, food, and a stretch. It's better to take your time and arrive safe and sound. Thumbs Up

I'm driving down from Ontario's great white north for My first Telluride. I've been to Merlefest twice and now I want to check out others. I should be there on the 14th or 15th. I'm a lowlander so I'll see how I handle the altitude.

it'll be our first time to TBG as well....thanks for the information about altitude - we've been forewarned by the festival promoter to get there on wednesday so we'll be able to breathe for our thursday and friday night shows.....we're up on the hill, so to speak, and not downtown.....how much further up is the Mountain Village from downtown T-ride???  thanks, and we look forward to seeing fellow Strawberrians at our shows.
