2008 TBF Flamingo Slayer

URL icon « Reply #168 on: May 04, 2009, 05:34:33 PM »

That's a great start Karlos thanks! I'm sure there is also an interesting story behind the Flamingos! LOL

Camp Flamingo hosts a Mai Tai (sp?) party at their camp in Town Park every year.  After getting lay-ed (sp?) and drinking Mai Tai's, it's pinyata (sp?) time... good party, eh?  Not wanting to make a fool out of myself, I tried to slip away undetected, so I wouldn't get picked to swing at the pink flamingo pinyata hanging from a nearby tree... no such luck... they found me, blind-folded me, and sent me out to the middle of the circle.  Steeee-rike one... then... ka-boom!  Everyone cheered!  I felt like I had just hit a home-run.  The insides of the pinyata went flying everywhere, and some of the insides were adult things  Wink  When one achieves Flamingo Slayer staus, one must wear the hat for the rest of the day.  I was rather proud of my drunk self, so I decided to toted along the flamingo's head too.  While out in the crowd at the festival, Gipper snuck up on me and snapped the shot that you now see as my avitar... Gipper also made-up the festi-motivator, too... It was just another day at the FESSSSSSTIVAAAAALLLLL!  WOOOHOOO!

Kaptain Karlos  Cheers

Jailhouse Rock!

URL icon « Reply #169 on: May 04, 2009, 08:02:27 PM »

Damn...didn't mean to start a fire storm! Love all the excitement over the PJ breakfast and all those willing to Jump in and help. This is going to be part of the regular pre-fest calandar! I think I have most of the day off tomorrow, so will go back through the thread and assign duties, supplies, etc and kind of, get us worker bees some kind of outline. Think Hippie is right on 100+. Going to have to lay out cooking stations, serving lines, etc. Will have a good flow when done. Livations for the cooks and helpers are there! This is GREAT! Did pick up one chaffeing dish today at Sam's and will go pick up another one.
It's going to be a pretty long post, when I organize all this, but give me tomarrow, and all I'll need is just need a "Roger Wilco" for those who have offered to help and help supply.
Thanks to all of you! Can't wait! Counting down the days!

Well here goes our list of things we are bringing. Hope it helps!
For Lalagay so far; spring form pans, cake pans, cooling rack, three or more 1/2 sheet pans,z ester, scale, candy thermometer, wire whip (SUR), metal icing spatula, rubber spatula, dough scrapers, pastry bag with tips, parchment paper, grnd Cinnamon, Vanilla and Almond extracts.
We will also have for Hippie; Gran garlic, oregano, tumeric, corriander, Nutmeg, cumin,Chili powder, and rib rub.
For the Bloody mary's; celery salt and Soul food seasoning (seasoned salt with cayenne).
If anyone else needs seasonings/herbs/flavorings, we will need to know soon. Please dont be shy about it, we will get it if we can.
I will take on the Hollondaise production. It sounds like with this amopunt of folks it will be best to make in several batches as we go along. Did you get my note earlier about what I will need for ingredients/equipment? Feel free to send us a pm.

Rob it was Useless Jo who mentioned hollandaise sauce when camping, (in the water guns topic) and I said I love eggs Benedict with a Bloody Mary, then you jumped on the ball and the whole thing has blossomed into what I believe will be a fantastic feast, to say the least!
Course Miki and Lalagay started the ball rolling, or the dough rolling, with the pastries and PJs, Ron mentioned food with beer tasting, etc etc and dang it!  all this talk about food is making me hungry!
Oh and for who it was that asked, I am in Run-a-muck/Town Hall, right behind the compost bins, but maybe not this year as it was really dusty there last year, but I'll be there somewhere near there over there away over there somewhere. Look for the monkeys in the trees.

so okay, the eggs Bene breakfast is on WEDNESDAY?  Just want to make sure I don't get the day wrong.  I missed out the last two years on the Bloody Mary's and the Mai Tais and the pinata and the potluck and the fashion show, and crap, was I even there? Rolleyes  Oh yea, I made the corn and you made the halibut and we kept bumping butts! LOL LOL

Wohoooo! this thread is on fire! I'm feeling quite intimidated now...  Rolleyes
I can give you a preliminary list of ingredients, the quantities are to be adapted to the circumstances of course:
LALAGAY'S LIST (don't take the piss please  LOL )
butter
flour
eggs
sugar (caster, golden, icing varieties)
unwaxed lemons
ground almonds
fresh fruit (apples, strawberries  :) )
double cream
dried fruit (raisins, whatever you feel like)
dark cooking chocolate
flaked almonds
baking powder
live bakers yeast
vanilla pods/extract
cinnamon/mixed spices
orange flower water/rose water

And NO, I'm NOT going to reveal what pastries exactly I'm going to be preparing, I'm working on the element of surprise  Flower

This is going to be one tasty breakfast  Cheers

Hi Lalagay!
I'll contribute the dried fruit and the fresh fruit to the pastry creations.  I can also help prep with you and Landshark early Wednesday morning if you need an extra pair of hands.   Thumbs Up   I'm working at the TP vehicle gate at 8 am though, so I'll have to leave a few minutes before.

Bummer that I'm actually going to miss the breakfast though  Frown
I might have to sneak away for a bit   Wink

peace out :peace

You should let us know where you will be. If you are contributing, you should also share in the end product. I'm sure we can work something out.  Thumbs Up

Jailhouse Rock!

URL icon « Reply #179 on: May 05, 2009, 09:46:41 PM »

Okay..Ready or not..The PJ Breakfast!
Looks like this is going to be great and Hands In from all over the globe. Be warned...once you become part of an annual pre-fest party...you can never leave!
Menu:
Eggs Benedict!
Bacon ( for Hooch and them Bacon folks!)
Fresh pastries!
Bloody Mary's and Mamosa's

Planning on about 75-100.
Jailhouse inventory:
2-Colemans
1-Coleman oven 9x13 (other ovens should be available, Kenny & Carolyn, Evil James, etc.)
2-gas grills 1-Sunbeam 1-Coleman
2-chaffeeing dishes (large enough to keep 2 items warm in each for quick serving)
Tables for the sevice line.
Pots and pans for the the oven and egg cooking.
Might need to farm out the toasting of the muffins.
Think the two chaffeeing dishes should be enough. Ham & bacon, eggs in one and sauce & muffins in the other.

Duties as I see it now.
-Jailhouse: Sitting back and watching all this happen! LOL No...really guess we'd better cook some eggs. Got the eggs, muffins and shaved honey ham. Bacon is up for grabs. Wednesday is the Bacon cook for the TP camp, so if there is leftovers, I'm sure we will have mouths to feed. Bring it over to the Jaihouse.
-Uselee & Lala: Baked delights and the all important Hollindaise sause! ( a little cayenne might not hurt!)
-Landshark: Maple/bacon cupcakes...hands off Hooch!

Will have early morning livations for the worker bees! Plan on having some Mamosa's and bad Bloody Mary's. Tucson Deb's are the best...but will have to wait until the sun comes up to get those!

Okay...Bsmith, Valerie and Cindy Lou...Just jump right in and I am loving the spirit!
Needed.. Mellons/Fruit (unused will be moved to the Rum Ball Tent for later that day.
Champange..cheap for the OJ.
Bsmith, I think is helping Tuscon with the Tomato juice for the Bloody Mary Morning! TKS! Got to meet this gal!

Going to need them folks that want to see this come off as well as I want it to. All early morning folks are welcome and all the help is more than appreciated.

Tom is down early and stalking for the camps. I am down on the 13th and Jailhouse is fully up that afternoon. Swing by and help firm up the plans and have a cocktail with us. Cheers

Help fill in the gaps! Serving this many is going to need some help! Know it is going to come off well and become part of the annual pre-fest, thanks to all of you all. Can't wait to meet all willing to help.
