Hello! Newbie here to this forum and to Telluride. We've attended many east coast fests over the years, but it's been our dream to attend Telluride. I'm going to do my best to make it happen next year. We are flying in, so camping probably won't work for us. Is there anyone willing to share some insight about lodging other than the camping sites. I'm trying to understand if we stayed off site how we would get to and from the festival during the days. Having never been in the area I don't have a good feel for if things are within walking distance, or if there are shuttles/busses/public transport, or if there is even day parking. I'm also considering renting a camper van and trying for a camping spot too. I would welcome your experienced opinions, advice, recommendations, and guidance on the best way for out-of-staters to make the most of the event.  And please by all means, if you have other advice or tidbits you wish you knew your first time, please share. Thank you for your help and for letting me join this great community.

Plenty of lodging, but it is EXPENSIVE. Transportation will not be an issue. There are busses and the gondola if you are in Mountain Village. Camper/Camper Van options would be limited but are available with a bus ride in to town.
If you are looking for lodging, booking a year out is your best bet.
The best way to do TBF is camping in Town Park, but that can be difficult flying in as you need all your gear and these nuts get all the good spots over a week before the festival starts.
However you do TBF, camping, condo, Camper. I HIGHLY recommend doing it. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and has changed my life for the better every year I have attended.
WELCOME to the festivarian family!

Since you have time, I'd suggest combing through past posts, as there is a treasure trove of information through these pages. Everything from what lodging is cheapest to what is closest. Nothing in Telluride is outside of "walking" distance. The entire town is not much longer than a mile, and half as wide. It's the best festival we've ever attended for so many reasons. I agree Town Park is the ultimate festival experience, but I can't imagine that the condo route ain't bad either! I would highly suggest that no matter where you decide to stay, and pretty sure everyone here would agree, the best decision you can make is to plan to be in Telluride at least 3 days before the festival begins on Thursday. Most the hard core festivarians who camp in Town Park, and Mary Illium will arrive the Saturday the weekend before the festival starts. There will be all kinds of campground events prior to the festival starting, arranged by longtime festival attendees. And, there's just so much to do and see walking, riding, climbing in and around the town and Mountain village (which is just a free Gondola ride away from town). By arriving early you can acclimate to elevation, see the sites and meet your new best friends, without spending time while performers are on stage. It really is a magical time!

Hi-

Check out the TBGF Virgin, get your answers here thread and TBF 101 for families thread.

Now, questions for you-

for 2022:  how much time do you have for the festival?
Is money an object?  (as it relates to condo/lodging prices?, please, never pay above face value for event tix)
Did you know you can mail yourself camping gear to the local PO in Telluride? (check in advance to make sure this is still a thing)
                 Do you already have tickets?
                 How many is "we?"

IMO, the optimal experience/location for the $ is Town Park/Warner Field camping, immediately adjacent to the festival grounds.  Each depend on time (different move-in dates), logistics and ticket availability.

It's a safe assumption that tickets from 2020 that Festivarians (aka, nuts) are currently holding will be honored and the demand for 2022 tickets will be off the rails.  Aiming for 2022 is laudable, but I suspect it will be one of the most difficult to obtain tickets for if you don't already hold them as a 2020 carry-over.  Keep this in mind and have a fallback plan.

As mentioned, town lodging is very pricey, but if you're in town or Mountain Village you can get there with just logistic and weather considerations.  Town shuttles run from one end of town to the other while other shuttles serve other campgrounds outside of town.  The town is walkable if you are.

Odds of a camper van at town park are approximately zero, at camp sites outside of town- better, but still not good.

Regards and welcome.

The entire town of Telluride is 8/10's of a mile long. Once you've acclimated to the high altitude you can walk anywhere, and before then there is the Grey Goose shuttle (free) to get around town.

Welcome!
