Just gotta ask. Saw a poster for a 3day festival in CA, and if the king of lockdown states can throw down, not sure why we can’t. It’s 100% outdoors, and pretty sure we all have masks now. Time to start living our lives again.

Live your life. Most of us want to live ours. Living safely during a global pandemic for me does not include attending large events while the rate of transmission is so high and there are highly transmissible mutations being passed around the community. We will all be together again ( I can’t wait) but when it’s safe for everyone - the staff, the performers, the audience old and young. Patience grasshopper, see you in Telluride sometime

I suspect the hog farm (or whatever it's called) will move to the Fall.

Even if the mutations don't become dominant in the next couple few months, we're still looking at a lot of people who wouldn't be fully immunized by June.   It's also possible people who get vaccinated are being infected and are still carriers.   Anecdotally, my cousin just received his second dose and tested positive about 5 days afterward.

If the mutations do become dominant, I suspect even semi-crowded outdoor events might prove to be vulnerable situations for exposure / transmission.

Having said all that, perhaps there's a model to allow proof of vaccination as a way to safely participate?

Pretty damn near certain it is not happening. Just got my appointment to get my first round of vaccine this week! Pretty excited, Monica already has had both shots.
We've put together a little festival for the same weekend.

Del Fest dates 5,27-30
High Sierra is scheduled for 7/1-4
Floyd Fest is scheduled for 7/21-25
Bonnaroo 9/2-5

So yeah, things are starting to perk up.

I could see the planet doing some smaller single day things if not full festivation.

In an interview a few weeks back, Craig alluded to a series of limited attendance bluegrass shows for late Summer. Specifically mentioning having Punch Brothers and Sturgill.

Email from PB?!

Craig was talking about a series of small shows, not a traditional "festival" as we have known it.

I just got that email as well.  I'm hoping they'll still allow some of us to postpone until next year, if this is the case.  Being out of town, multiple weekends just isn't possible.  I want my first Telluride experience to be a complete one.

Dear Festivarian,

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the endless possibilities of the future.  We’re reconnecting with you, before we reach out to the general public, as a member of the Planet Bluegrass Family who graciously opted to postpone or donate your ticket(s) from 2020. We would like to reiterate our gratitude, as well as give you an update on where we stand with our 2021 events.

As of now, we are working diligently to develop plans for our return to Festivaria. While we remain relentlessly optimistic, the safety of our Festivarians, staff, and artists is our priority. Our souls need music and our goal is to bring this medicine back in the safest possible manner. Please know we are doing our best to adapt to the evolving pandemic while continuously monitoring the vaccine rollout and state/county restrictions.

We are excited to tell you that we are seeking approval for three weekends of music in Telluride this June! As part of this plan, we are anticipating drastically reduced daily capacities and comprehensive safety measures to keep you healthy.

We are working hard to ensure RockyGrass and Folks Festival take place as well. This vision will likely include a glorious return of Rockygrass Academy and The Song School. As you can imagine our events will look quite different this year, but we can't wait to welcome you back.

None of this is going to happen as rapidly and clearly as any of us would like. Our efforts remain at the whim of the pandemic, and we face new challenges each day. Flexibility is key for all of us as we work together to make this happen. We realize that you have a lot of questions, and while we don’t have the answers yet, please know that we promise to take care of our Festivarian Family! As soon as we are certain about our plans, you will be the first to know.

Thank you for your loyalty and support throughout the past year! We love and appreciate you more than ever. Our reunion together will be musical, magical, and sooner than you might think. Keep an eye out...

With love,
The Planet Bluegrass Family
