Hot Rize and the Red Knuckles set were without a doubt my absolute favorite. I have missed them terribly and it was so fun being out there with my tribe. Would have loved to see them have more time too. Bring on Suede!

I am surprised no one has mentioned Paolo Nutini's set.  He was new to me but I thought they had loads of dancable, energetic talent and everyone around me on the tarps seemed to agree. It was a nice new treat.

I also was especially pleased by Uncle Earl, Bela's duets, Flux and Sam's sets, the House Band rocks and after I got over the throne, I enjoyed Solomon Burke's set too. (Did I mention the Blues Brothers is one of my favorite movies?)

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

Of all the new artists at Telluride I was pleasantly surprised by the Frames set.
I had never heard them before, and they put on a great show. Flower

Mccoury boys and friends at the sheridan was amazing too.

Mixing Ronnie and Robbie's style with Drew's and a little Vince, was magic.

My picks:

1. The House Band  Medal

2. Leftover Salmon

3. The Duhks w/ hailstorm

4. Uncle Earl @ Fly Me To The Moon (that venue should seriously invest $15 in a fan...you could barely breath down there!)

5. Béla and Chris Thile impromptu workshop in Elks Park

6. Friday night from about 2:30 am - 5 am at the Tiki Lounge campsite in Town Park, going in and out of sleep with our tent right next to a group playing some great tunes. I would have been annoyed because it kept waking me up, but it was so great!  Sleep My first real feeling of why TP is such a cool place to be.  Anyone know who these swing cats were? Esp. the singer for the earlier parts?  huh

Honorable mentions: Sammy, Solomon Burke, The Blue Canyon Boys (sweet vocals, reminded me of Seldom Scene...anyone??)

Heh! Glad you enjoyed the music from the Tiki Bar. We sure had fun curating it, and I think the musicians all enjoyed themselves. The house band was a mix of Voluntary String Band (band contest finalists! yay!) and Gravy, both Flagstaff bands, plus Pete Kartsounes and his buddy Brendan, plus many other wonderful guests.

Pete took the lead on many of the jams, including the amazing Neil Young and Grateful Dead sets.

If you remember any of the songs you heard while drifting in and out of sleep, I might be able to be more specific - I've been sampling some of the dozens of hours of recordings I made at the Tiki Bar today.

Hoping to have pix up soon.

cheers, y'all! BFE! (best festival ever)  Thumbs Up

House Band
Hornsby & Skaggs
Emmit-Nershi
Jerry Douglass
Uncle Earl @ Fly me to the Moon

First I am little aghast nobody has mentioned Jerry's set. I was in awe. I like him and have most of his music, but his live sets have always been good but not great to my ears. 2008 was the best I've heard from about 10-15 sets or concerts I've been at.  He tackled various forms of acoustic music and did it all with near perfection.

Uncle Earl at Fly me to Moon was hard to beat though (thier main stage set was also pretty good). Almost died from heat but it was worth it. Don't look past the KC/Kristen tour on the Front Range this week.

It takes a while of reflection for us to filter through the entire experience.
Yes Jerry is a superb performer and he feels like family to me I have seen him so many times. It feels good just to see his face once again and when I hear him play it takes my breath away,,,,, everytime Flower

Friday was just plain amazing from start to finish.

I would list my favorite sets from the weekend, but then I'd be listing just about every band that played.

I have to agree, Tom ... I was totally knocked out by the Frames - took me totally by surprise!

BTW, came home to see CSN on Tuesday night here in Albuquerque - a GREAT way to decompress ... they were great - wonderful to hear Crosby with his voice completely back ...
