3rd Annual Bluegrass in the Bottoms KC !!
Fri 17th - Jeff Austin, RRE, and Trampled By Turtles
Sat 18th - Keller Williams, Steep Canyon Rangers, and the Dusters!

Then it's off to Telluride!

Wasn't Bluegrass in the Bottoms a blast? That was one of the best Railroad Earth sets I've ever seen. The shows on Saturday were fantastic, too. My crew are huge SCR fans, so we knew the Steeps set was going to be great. But how about that Grateful Grass set with Keller and the Stringdusters? WOW. Lindsay Lou was fabulous, too. They had some sound issues with Trout Steak early in the day, but they still brought it.  Anyway, my group all agreed that we wanted to come back to Kansas City next year. It was a really nice little festival. Plus, we ate our way through as many barbecue meals as we could find. YUM.

Agreed on RRE! It was definitely a cosmic set.
And kudos to Mammoth for bringing in the Dusters on the BGITB KC bill, as they aren't doing Telluride. Moving the show inside worked out well, even though the space was more limited. We were 10 feet from the stage, and Andy Hall just destroyed it, on Dobro. What a set it was!!
This warm up fest, definitely got me in the Telluride mood.

Curious, has RRE replaced Andrew Goessling, or are they just forging ahead without him?

They had some guy with them at the Bender who played guitar, banjo and pedal steel and he killed it, IMO. Replacing Andy is impossible, but I found myself hoping the guy the have now sticks around. I feel like someone said he used to play with Elephant Revival, but I'm not sure about that.

That dudes name is Mike something, he may have sat in with ER but he was never part of the band. The multi-instrumentalist from ER was originally Sage Cook, then Charlie Rose the last 3 years.

How come they don't turn the banjo up?

The dude's name is Mike Robinson, who previously played with Jeff Austin.
Though no one can replace Andy, Mike is a stellar musician in his own right. Mike played Banjo, Acoustic Guitar (He was ripping some sweet leads), and pedal steel.
The RRE set a BGITB KC was shorter, as they weren't headlining, and I hope they start playing 'Head' again at future shows, as I miss those Banjo rolls that Andy put to that tune!

MS TUTTLE HERE WE COME!

Wasn't that a blast!  What a great night at the Indy.  I've known the family for a long time and their kids' (?) success is all earned and due to hard hard work.

Sullivan Tuttle's guitar playing was outstanding.  When he announced the Dylan cover, I yelled out "Happy Birthday".  But he didn't know it was Bob's birthday.

Hung out with Maureen and Jack and kept thanking them for bringing such great kids into the world to make music for us all to enjoy.

The encore "Standing on the Moon" was a complete surprise.

Blue Summit goes to England in a few days.  I could def see them on the Shellman stage at some point.  AJ is a great player and bandleader.

Thanks for supporting Molly.  Still can't get "Sleepwalking" out of my head.

Friday night I drove over to Appleton and caught John Prine and Todd Snider. I have seen both artists over a dozen times but this was the best John Prine show I have seen. Adding Bill on drums and Fats on everything but John's guitar gives him a great sound along with longtime band members Jason and Dave. The Tree of Life backdrop was great as well. Good mix of new and old songs with Todd joining John for All the Best and Illegal Smile and encore of Paradise. John looked like he was having a great time and even included Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian.
