I've been roaming REI's website for an hour trying to make a shade tent decision, and realized I should ask the experts! I'm coming with my toddler and buying a shade tent for the first time. I know everyone has that same Kelty, but any thoughts about why? Or why not? Any other models you love? Thanks!

I use an EZ Up because it doesn't obstruct the view of the people who set up behind me.  It also provides great air circulation.  I can't speak to which Kelty might be best for you, except to say that they are much lighter than the EZ Ups.  Many of the Keltys have sides that will obstruct the view of other folks.  If I was choosing a Kelty I would choose one with more open sides.

This makes so much sense to me, which is I think why I wondered why everyone has that same one! But I'm with you on air flow and not wanting to obstruct others' view. Thanks for replying!

I'm coming w a Big Agnes Whetstone (got on closeout deal).... its only 2-3 lbs, great for air travel + little kiddos. Now I feel like real jerk knowing I may block folks (didn't think of that, but cost and weight... not a lot of options via air travel).
Is this really a huge issue?

Not really, others have the same or similar ones.  Just work with those around you and I am sure it will be fine.

I went fancy with the Big Agnes Three Forks that is essentially shaped like an EZ up so shouldn't block views, but I'm coming to find the folks with the Kelty's with side walls when the afternoon sun gets hot!!
