Campground and Life Advice

Hey y'all! Noob here and I'm going solo. I need all the tips, tricks, and awesomeness I can get. For instance, can I drive my car in the campground (staying at Mary Ileum) to drop off all my stuff, what are absolute must haves supply and gear wise, is there ice for purchase at the campground, what's the deal with the nightgrass shows- do ya shuttle there, what time do the shows go to (and does anyone have an extra Salmon!?).

  Lot of that really depends on which campground you are staying at. Nightgrass is the shows that happen after the main stage is finished (well in most cases), and they take place in various venues around town. The one absolute must haves is be prepared for cold temps once sun is gone, near or below freezing at night. And during the day, though the thermometer won't agree it will be quite warm in the sun, feels about 10 degrees warmer than actual temps. If you are not camping at one of the on site campgrounds, which are Town Park, and Warner Field you'll want to haul everything you need for the entire day on the bus with you when you head to the stage area. Going back and forth to Illium or Lawson takes at minimum 45minutes to an hour, and thats only if you are in and out, so your bound to miss a lot of music if you do that. The biggest suggestion I'd make is get there as early in the week as you can, so much fun happens in the camps prior to festivals official start, and theres so much hiking, biking and stuff to do around the area, arriving early gives you the chance to do these things and not miss music. If you are at Illium or Town Park you can set up camp the Saturday before festival starts. Be nice, make friends, if you play an instrument bring it. I'm sure others have more suggestions, this forum will give you all the answers you need. Oh bring a bike if you can. Also lots of killer fishing in the area.

Only can be there for 1 night so was wondering a couple things.

1 - do you park ON the campsite?  or is that what everyone's saying about there being no more vehicle passes?

2 - where do I buy a campsite pass?  I think Mary E. sounds nice but can't find a link or a place to buy one.

3 - Is it doable to camp in the back of a pickup with a sleeping bag and some padding etc? (not a very good at camping. . yet )

1 - do you park ON the campsite?  or is that what everyone's saying about there being no more vehicle passes? Parking is separate from the campgrounds.  Each campground has a designated, free parking area.  You will tent camp away from your vehicle.

2 - where do I buy a campsite pass?  I think Mary E. sounds nice but can't find a link or a place to buy one. Mary. E. Illium requires a 4-day festival pass, or individual tix to all 4 days of the festival. If you can swing all four days, camping passes (sold by person, no by site) are still available at http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/camping.html.  Lawson Hill allows camping for those who are not attending all 4 days.  That is sold out, so you need to check the board on this forum, http://www.festivarian.com/index.php/board,31.0.html.  There are other, non-official campgrounds in the area, but I'm not familiar with them (i.e. Matterhorn).  Others who've stayed there can chime in.

3 - Is it doable to camp in the back of a pickup with a sleeping bag and some padding etc? If you're at one of the official Planet Bluegrass campgrounds, you will need a vehicle pass in addition to a camping pass.  These are all sold out, but you can keep your eyes peeled on the ticket exchange board of this forum.  The town of Telluride prohibits sleeping in your car, and you won't be able to drive into/park on the side streets in town anyway without a barricade pass, something available to residents and those renting condos only.
