I don't mind the dancing,the quiet singing or even the occasional clapping.... BUT, please don't "rebel yell" or howl every few minutes....


We were totally traumatized by someone at a Further Festival in 1996.... We had someone right behind us that would let out this "rebel yell" every minute or so- for the entire 8 hours or so....  Matthew was just an infant and every time- he would get startled . At one point, I even asked if he could stop yelling quite so loud since he was scaring the baby. To this day, when I'm at a concert and hear one of these yells- my insides get ready to hear it every minute or so.....

NOw, I love an occasional FESTIVAAAAAAAL though but please not every minute while the music is playing...

I must say I am all of the above, I clap, I dance, I talk, yes it's true I do sing way too much and sometimes too loud as well,,,, but man does it feel good.  I'm on vacation , it's my Bday and ,,,well, It's MIKI's world for 4 short days and nights.

I just said "look fast" because if they try to spend too much time twirling in that path, they are asked to go back to the side.

and..of course I agree completely with the talking thing.... bad, very bad.

If you want to stay seated in a lawn chair for 4 days thats yer thing, but with sooo much good music,, how can you NOT move.

Way too sedentary fer me, and sounds like you folks need to be at a concert not a FESSSSSSSSTIIIIIIIIIIVAAAAAAL!!!!!!
FESTIVAL= MERRYMAKING Look it up folks,, no where in the dictionary does it say,, dormant in a lawn chair for 4 days.
Think of this way, music is moving in a well,, kinda spiritual way and when people break out in dance and song it's a sign of joy. And that is beautiful,,, to me anyway.
People that raise their arms and reach for the sky and grownups with squirt guns are my favorite

I am good with dancing....I am good with the standing later...  oh oh... did I get in trouble for admitting that I have been guility of singing along? Come on, I said I woudn't do it again!!!!

  Ya know what is so great about FESTIVALLLLLL, is that we are all there experiencing the same thing only in different ways.

I was thinking. we stay for the entire show and practicaly live on our tarp, while other folks may spend only a few hours on their tarp and more time in the camping scene.

So I guess when you live on a tarp for 4 days yer bound to bug somebody and I think it best to have a forgiving and loving attitude.

I lost over 70 points too and yes I finnally smithed people who I THOUGHT did the same to me,,,,,,,,, after all it's only a number  (not 40 point however)and I guess this is how you show dissaproval of comments " No talking, singing, dancing or clapping "is unreasonable for a 4 day period on the tarp.

I stand/sit/sing corrected.  Good point Luanna, I guess there's a time and place for everything.  Remember singing Howlin' at the Moon to the full moon at Rocky Grass.  That was amazing.

Some random thoughts about the "up front"


1. There is a tapers section right in front of the sound booth. Obviously that is a good place for good sound and so they can get good tapes there. I used to get a lot of those recordings... and I can tell you... the recording is not enhanced by TALKING during the music! so.. if you know that a big part of the festival experience for you is sitting on the tarp and visiting about random things and just kind of letting the music be a background to your party, you might want to put your tarp somewhere else, as a courtesy to the tapers. As a matter of fact, just trying to listen to the music while people around you are having a conversation can be difficult. best to leave long conversations for between sets. Even if the band that is playing is one that you don't even want to hear, the people on the next tarp may have come to the festival specifically to hear that band. 

Thank you for understanding.  I'm not one of those tapers that goes around shooshing everyone at the slightest hint of conversation, but nothing kills a recording better than two people having a full on  conversation over the music.  I record the shows for me and for you.  that conversation about your out of body experience over passing Tim O in the airport could take place anywhere else in the 36 acres of town park.

The dancing guy is Pat, he owns an organic market in Ridgway.  A front of the line member...
