McCauley Family here!  This is our first year and super excited.  We will have 3 kiddos under 10 for those with kids.  We won't get there until Wed evening, so I'm hoping there will be a decent spot.  Hubby is very nervous that all the spots will be taken.  We have a vintage hardside camper.

Can't wait to meet you all and enjoy our first time at the Festival!!!!

Hello, I don't think you will have any problems. Allot of times there is still a little room up front in the "quieter section" for family's, and hard sided campers.  Wink I am working the welcome tent from 8:00 - 12:00 pm, just ask for Ross. I will try to keep track of at least the front anyway. There is no real spots. It is where ever you find room. But it's ok because everyone out there is friendly, and might become your life long friend. We make good neighbors.  Wave

It's our first time too!  We have 3 girls, ages 5, 9 and almost 11.  How old are Hannah and Matt?  We will have the red/white vintage hardside camper.  Exciting!

Matt and Hannah are all grown up, 28 & 22.

It's great that they have both come to love bluegrass after listening to all that other stuff.
They both have much more festival experience than me, just not TBG.  Both attended Yonder's Harvest festival in Arkansas, while it was going.
Matt is a  huge Grateful Dead fan also, attending one of the last shows in San Francisco, last year.

Question for you guys.  This will actually be my first year camping due to everyone bailing at the last second.  I know there is no booze allowed at the HS, but i'm solo so the family camping isn't a big hassle.

Would you guys recommend MEI or the HS?  That close proximity of the school just sounds so much easier.

Convenience vs. beauty.

HS is a SHORT bus ride away (either on the Festival school buses OR the free Galloping Goose), even very walk-able (take the river road for pleasure, the main drag for speed).  It also is a smooth campground but no shade.

MEI is gorgeous, very wooded alng the river.  But it IS a much longer bus ride so a trip to change clothes will require missing more music, and those school buses get pretty crowded after the fest.

If you have your own shade, I'd go HS.  If not, MEI.

How long is the bus ride from Illium to the Fest?

I had a quick question, our first TBF.

We have etickets single day, for all (4) days. Do we need to stop at the box office, before checking in at Mary E.?

Txs in advance.

It's about easiest if you stop at Mary E. first. Find a spot real quick unload, and then go into town. The less stuff you haft to haul around the better. Only an opinion.
