Hey Folks!  As you may have seen in other posts, or by meeting us last year, a group of us are riding our bicycles out to the festival from Boulder again this year.  of coarse we are really excited and want to get the word out and let anyone who feels up to it to join us!  We can offer help finding gear transport for your extra stuff, and you could ride with us for all or a portion of it if you please.  Don't worry, we are amateurs too, the pace is easy and the scenery is great.  We bike through Buena Vista, Gunnison, Montrose, and all the other towns inbetween.  Hey, if you want to offer up a bed or yard to camp in along the way, that could be amazing as well to give us a night off of highway side sleeping.  It's gonna be a fun one once again and we want anyone interested to jump on it.  Take care,

Thanks for the questions! 
We are planning on arriving to the festival by the Saturday before in order to enjoy all of the pre-fest activities.  If I remember correctly, the ride was like 11 days last year, but we did take more "off-days" than we may this year.  I will talk to some people and make some concrete dates for our start and stops along the way.  We will be leaving the first week of June for sure.  The ride from Boulder-Telluride last year was 350 miles and we shot for a minimum of 30 miles a day, going more sometimes for sure. 

We haven't nailed down our starting point yet because of a few peoples schedules (eg. getting home from a wedding in time to leave)  There is talk of Starting in Buena Vista this year, and if we do that we have a parking place with some raft guide buddies available for free.  Another idea discussed has been an RTD bus that goes to Aspen Park in the mountains on the way.  However, we also may do the whole deal again from Boulder/Denver.  Red Rocks would be a great starting place, right?.  I will work on the concrete details and dates of our ride this weekend.  Any input you all have would be greatly appreciated as well, we are very flexible.  It would be fantastic to get some more riders to join in this year, so far we have at least a couple of us leaving from the front range, and a group from San Francisco who rode last year as well.  Take Care,

Hi, I am Elliot, one of the bikers from last year who is about ready to ride this year!  My trip is a bit shorter and is going to be solo this year it looks.  We have heard from a few other groups of riders, but it is always hard to merge schedules.  I  have been in Crested Butte for a bit now and will begin biking to the festival Monday the 9th in order to make sure and arrive by the 14th.  My route looks like this if all goes well, if anyone wants to join or meet up on the way that would be great.  i will go CB to Cimmaron campground on day one.  Then to montrose, or most likely to Ridgeway the next day (orvis hot springs!)  Following that I will spend two more days on the way to Telluride with an undisclosed camp on the way (Placerville?).  It should be pretty fun, and after the fest I may go anywhere (or just stay in T-ride for a bit).  I just wanted to share my plans in case anyone was interested.

Your event could dovetail well with our event.  We are planning 4-5 bluegrass festivals in 6-8 weeks.  The itinerary is

Crested Butte - Pagosa Folk n Bluegrass
Pagosa - Palisade Bluegrass
Palisade - Telluride Bluegrass
Telluride - Bighorn Mnt. Bluegrass (Buffalo, WY),  the big leg of 620 miles
Buffalo WY - RockyGrass, in Lyons, CO
Lyons, CO - Crested Butte

Maybe some of your group that wants to travel to more bluegrass festivals could pick up on our trip before Telluride or after.  In all the tour is around 1750 miles.

I guess it is time for a Bluegrass By Bike roll call and all that jazz.  You all have a fantastic trip planned, I wish I could take the whole summer off like I have been doing in the past.

this is Elliot here, I am still working out my plans for T-ride, which includes finding a handful of Town Park tixs and a few other logistics, but I am about 95% sure that I will be biking into Telluride once again.  I live in Austin now, so I will be driving my 71 VW van from there to Colorado.

 My personal tour in mind, which anyone and everyone should join, is looking like a ride begining in Ridgeway going to Silverton, The Durango, to Mancos, through Doleres towards Rico, and then Telluride.  A bit shorter to our 900 mile journey in the past, but a great ride around what I consider some of the best scenery in Colorado...and the world.  After the fest it will be posible to ride back to Ridgeway in on day, which is nice for time schedules, so lets leave some cars out of the small and beautiful town of Telluride!

I may start a new post, but it is always great to hook up with other like minded bikers, so lets keep in touch and organize!  I am getting stoked!  As a matter of fact, I am doing my volunteer app. foloowing this post.
