If people recall, Ryan Adams quit music for a while after his 2008 show. I believe he was burnt out and needed some time to recover. From what I can tell, he worked out his demons and has remembered why he loves making music, because the show I saw last summer was simply incredible. He was so full of life and energy and it really showed in his performance. I'm really excited to get to see him back at TBF.

Ryan Adams was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease a while back…..a crazy hearing (tinnitus) and balance disorder that I actually suffer from myself.  In his case, the lights from his shows would trigger episodes of extreme vertigo which made performing quite difficult.  He stopped playing for a long time and worked on trying to get healthy.  It's been such a wonderful comeback for him.  I saw him in Charleston, SC last year with his entire band and it was just an incredible show. I'm sooooo looking forward to his set at Telluride!

I have to add one thing. Brian when there is a solo act on that huge stage I would love to see you pull in the stage like that video of Ryan with a table and a chair and a plant, like a living room jam. They all look so alone on that huge stage. Just a suggestion.

Every aspect of this Fest is fascinating, down to the announcement of the guest Artist and the back drop. I want to do the back drop. I have this outstanding idea. See we all are so much apart of this great Fest and we pay attention to all the effort and different aspects that have to be considered. I wonder why Ferg is giving Ryan a redo. I think that shows to go you he is a person with an open mind and if what I just read about his hearing is true Bravo for not calling the kettle black Ferg. See open minded, ya never know what the entire story is until you hear the entire story.

[ We've had some great Celtic and American cajun bands over the years, but I don't think we've ever had a hot Quebecois band like this (and this will be their first trip to Colorado). They totally bring it - insanely danceable fiddle tunes with a distinctive Quebecois swing, catchy vocal songs with call-and-response verses sung in French, foot rhythms (podorhythmie) that we'll all be trying to replicate on our tarps, and virtuosic, creative arrangements that are a bit unlike anything we’ve heard before.  Here's a glimpse of the energy of their live show (https://youtu.be/KnuHaJvDl-E).  ]

Being a Michigan transplant, y'all nailed it with De Temps Antan. I've heard them at least twice at the best festival in Michigan (Happy Wheatland!). They are so high energy and they make my smile crack wide open. I am so looking forward to hear them again! Thanks PB.

Personally, I'm hoping for an appearance by the Travelin McCourys either at FirstGrass or, better yet, a NightGrass slot at the old Elks Club (if they'd fit).  They're playing some outstanding music these days, such as this Dead cover of "Loser":

I obsessively love [old] Mumford and saw them both years at TBF including their first year at the Opera House (before literally anyone knew who they were outside of the UK, which was special- and amazing) but they don't play folk music any more. Their latest album 'Wilder Mind' released last year is electric guitar and synth-heavy arena pop rock a-la Coldplay, but not as good. Their tour last summer was with the Flaming Lips and some folky bands too as part of their carnival-like festival setup, but they've been solidly selling themselves as an electric rock band.

It's extremely unlikely that they'll ever return to Telluride because of how their sound has changed. There's no banjo or even any other acoustic instruments at all on the album, if I'm not mistaken. Their 2011 Main Stage performance was far and away the greatest performance I've seen at Telluride in the years since I've been coming to the Fest (since 2004). And their 2010 Opera House show during their first year hear was nothing short of historic. Standing at the band's feet in that tiny 214 person capacity venue and hearing songs like 'Little Lion Man' and 'The Cave' performed for the first time before the entire world knew them and loved them just a short time later was mind blowing and tear-invoking to say the least. I've seen a lot of music and all different kind and I'd never experienced anything like them before.
