Yep, they let the Town Park line and street line people in at numerically equivalent times.

Did that make sense?...numerically equivalent....like they let the person in the street line with #127 into the festival at the same time as they let in the person in the Town Park line with #127.

The one big difference is there's a lot fewer runners in Town Park, so it appears that they have an advantage. Wink

What's this about "legit waiting?"

Is there such a think as un-legit waiting?  Crap - I may have been getting it wrong all these years!  Please, someone, legitimize me if you see me in line!

Just kidding - you can legitimately wait in line in Town Park starting the night before your land rush attempt.

Of course, line policy has long been a huge topic of discussion around here.  Anyone care to kick it off this year?  Or is it necessary?

hopefully i can help legitimize you bevin  LOL. anyways i meant waiting for a good amount of time as opposed to just walking up at 8:30 expecting something out of that, which i'm not.

Yojo,
Thanks for that - I'll surely need it by mid-June  Cheers

As for your line plans, my take is that if you want a spot in front of the soundboard, you have to have a pretty low entrance number, like under 100.  Maybe even well under 100.  Maybe lower than 50.

Numbers (on laminated cards) get handed out numerically to people in line at a random time each morning; sometimes very early, sometimes just kinda early.  So the earlier you get in line, the more likely you'll get a low number and, therefore, a shot at a close-up tarp spot.  So my advice is that you get in line as early as you can stand it.

As I recall, the numbers in the Town Park line and in the town line go up to 200 and after that it's a normal line - first come, first served.  So with 2 lines, and 400 numbers, you almost have to have a number to get a close-up spot.

The line is a fun place to hang out at night, too.  I know people who never use their tent after Tuesday night 'cause they stay up all night making friends and getting their numbers.  It's a festival tradition.

See you in line!

THE LINE POLICY... one of my favorite topics...  Evil

Let's start with "at what time does the line form for the following day's music?"

This is tricky... and I'm going to address the Town Park/Warner Field line only.  The town of Telluride forbids people to assemble in line before some time that I cannot recall.  Maybe someone can help me here.  It's late in the day... around 9:00pm.  Knowbody waits until 9:00pm to begin forming either line.  What happens over at the TP/WF line is that someone places (secures with duct-tape) the first few chairs along the fenceline.  The word gets out to the festivarians on the tarps via campers going back and fourth from their camps, and then all hell breaks loose.  I have had people run up to me while I'm thoroughly enjoying the mid-afternoon music and scream "KARLOS!!! the line is forming... the line is forming!", because they know I will stress-out and begin working on Run-A-Muck's line game-plan for the day.  You know... who is going to sit in line when and for how long.  Last year AJ took on this duty for our camp and did an excellent job in spite of the little place-number fiasco we had with Daniela.  It all worked out... every day we were able to place out tarps directly in front and  20 or 30 feet forward of the soundboard.  This takes teamwork when you are tarping for 20.  We'd put three people in line as soon as we could bear leaving the tarp and then coordinate well-rested physically fit runners to take our tarps inside the festival each day.  We always had numbers in hand under 20.  I can hardly wait to do it all over again in June!

If you don't get in line early are you going to be sitting a couple miles back or something?  Is there a place to stand up front to see the music?  Obviously my first year at Telluride and my only reference is Rockygrass where there is almost no bad spots in the place.  I am camping at WF so can I enter the grounds through TP?

Yes you may enter through TP entrance.  I have always gone for the back of the first section and have found I can get that spot as long as my number is <200.  Typically if you get in the TP line at 5:30 or 6:00 you should get a number.  The line grows dramitcally with the rising of the sun.  I could usually get much closer than I get, but I like my spot.   There really are no bad seats, just some that are closer to the green rooms.  You can stand over by the hula hoop area on the front left and see particular acts of you like.

Thanks.  From some of the video I have seen the grounds look huge.
