Hey, Matt.

Last year...not knowing about the line scenario, I drove up to
Grand Targhee from there, and parked in the main parking lot
where the line was forming.  Very informal and relaxed...I
wound up picking with a very cool family from Salt Lake City
and wound up sleeping under the stars under the parking lot.

However, there are some campgrounds nearby Targhee,
including Teton Valley which is the typical state park
campground, but very nice.  There are also a couple of
hotels in Driggs too, so given your little one, Matt,
that may be your best bet.

Plus...when the gates opened at 9 am for Targhee last year,
there were probably 40 vehicles and a half dozen or so RV's.
Yeah...that small!!

You can also find some good info on the Targhee area at

That must have been uncomfortable. LOL
Or was it in a coffin? Wink

Hey, Mr. Mayor!  Wave  Actually, it was very pleasant, as I pulled
out my inflatable mattress and slept next to my vehicle.
The weather was beautiful the entire time last year, so it was
easy to get some sleep...ON the parking lot!  :)

Matt -

What we've always done was get a room at Targhee on Thursday night.  You can actually park your car down where the camping is and then just walk down and set up camp Friday AM.  It works out great.  It's a relatively short drive to Driggs for the concert Thursday night, then back up the canyon to Targhee.

I'm getting excited for Targhee... what a fabulous summer this is turning out to be!!

I wish I did, Monkeygirl.  It was a full family that used to do
Telluride then has been doing Targhee the past handful of
years.  They have a lovely daughter approaching her early
teens who was playing banjo, fiddle and guitar.   They had
several other nice folks with them...I would like to think
they'll be there this year.  The father is an old school Deadhead too! :)

I know them!!  The daughter's name is Savannah... I'm embarrassed to say that I can't remember either one of the parent's name - which is unbelievable because they know me and are always so kind (I'm a shit on so many levels... but it's honestly a function of a slipping memory, nothing else).  They are there every year, so you'll have a chance to see them again if you go.

Savannah is a lovely young woman... Yet another one of the "next generation" of performers.

This is my "home" festival allthough i am branching out and doing the whole tellruide thing this year. It is amazing. My dad comes too so we get rooms in the ski lodge where all the performers stay. I also went to the camp beforehand and had a blast learning from Thorin. It is way intiment. I stayed up until for on Sunday night jamming will BILLY NERSHI and TYLER GRANT!  You can just sit on a couch in the ski lodge and watch Bela Fleck, Jeff Austin, Sam Bush, Casey Dreisen, and Drew Emmit walk by you on the way to their rooms. It is too cool for words...BUT DONT TELL ANYONE ELSE!!!!

I went to Telluride last year and kind of wished I would have gone to GT instead.  This year it will be Rockygrass and Targhee.   Cheers
