so you put for Del tix, got hit, and you are going to trade them away  huh

I didn't put in for Del.  I put in for some Sheridan shows.  Got some, didn't get some. So it goes.

I suppose it's a gray area of sorts and don't see an issue with people who put in for max amount and wind up with extras due to circumstance ... such as everyone in their crew shooting for the same thing and all lucking out; however, I believe how the extras are ultimately handled is kind of what gets me.

I know there's no official rule or guidelines, but it just seems to me that once you've acquired basic access at the "root level" - be it a TP/WF, or 4-day pass - that using extra TP/WF/4Days to acquire nightgrass would go against the grain of spreading the wealth so everyone who wants access to the core festival has the opportunity to do so.   Maybe I'm arbitarily placing more importance on access to 4 days of the main stage.

also seems kinda likely ppl are going to be more likely just to buy off a scalper if they have nothing to trade with but really want to get into a show.  which is disappointing considering there are apparently tons of festgoers just sitting there holding on to stacks of tix they have no intention of using.

this is a new phenomenon.  only as far back as like 2008 i dont remember much problem at all getting in to most of these, certainly not selling out immediately.  hell im pretty sure you could get a pass that was all-access nightgrass at that point.

So, if one has an extra Town Park or 4-day, she should sell up straight up and not trade it for a nightgrass?  Somehow that is more 'ethical'?

You're assuming the person with the Nightgrass already has a festival ticket - for himself of their group . . . not always the case.  You get shut out of the lottery, you score some decent nightgrass shows - and it's the nightgrass that gets you your festival ticket . . .

It is not the economics of Nightgrass enrichment you decry, but rather of what comes around . . goes around . . ?

Just where, exactly, are these "stacks of tickets they have no intention of using" . . . EVERY TICKET IS ALMOST CERTAINLY GOING TO GET USED . . .

if there were SO MANY of these extra 4-days and town parks floating around, wouldn't the nightgrass trade list be empty by now?

What is your point exactly about  . . . 8 years ago, this wasn't too hard?  Shows selling out isn't a new phenomenon . . . you used  to be able to buy festival tickets from the Planet almost right up until almost the week of the show.  There were times when Telluirde Bluegrass didn't sell out!

nightgrass has matured.  More bands want to play!  There only used to ONE Sheridan show, now there's 4 this year!! there's more people out late at night than ever before

The all-venue wristband was a disaster and I'm glad they did away with it - did you ever go a Fly Me To The Moon Show and just stand around sweating while a bunch of drunk assholes chattered on and on while the music was playing?  That was the nightgrass wristband for ya . . !

It's ironic to see "some" people in this thread decrying the use of a 4 day pass as trade bait when they themselves are doing the same thing in the TBG ticket section of the forum...

My friends who won the Town Park lottery are unable to go due to unforeseen financial circumstances. They are letting me sell/trade their passes on the forum for Nightgrass tickets and cash then to give them the full cash amount when all is said and done. All except 1 of our friends got shut out of the nightgrass lottery. I don't see anything wrong with uses the TP tix to try to get nightgrass. I know how much people want their whole group of friends at Town Park and we really want to go to a few nightgrass shows. So if we can exchange for what we want more I don't see anything wrong with that. Do you?  Cheers

Additionally if the TP camping and 4 days passes could be separated we would have sold the 4 day passes to someone who did not get tickets yet and the TP to trade for Nightgrass, but they are a bundle.

So if, hypothetically, I have a friend who is looking for a 4-day pass, I can just point her your direction, even though she doesn't have a Greensky nightgrass ticket, right?

As I mentioned, I think it's a gray area ... so not necessarily saying one practice is "more ethical" than another, but that I think it's possible we're now experiencing festivarians who intentionally procur more TP/WF/4D than are necessary; austensibly to "play it safe", yet may also leverage the extra credentials to their advantage after they'd safely slide into home base themselves    My responses were mostly geared towared the OP's original comment:

Based on the amount of activity on the trading sites, maybe it wasn't the scalpers that were gobbling up all those tickets in the camping lottery.  It was forward-thinking Festi-tradians hoping to use fest tickets as bait for sold out NightGrass shows.

It's possible you're referring to me.

I'm looking to trade down my (only) 4-day for a Friday + Sat + LOS nightgrass.  Sure the 4-day carries some "leverage", but it's not as if I'm sitting on a second 4-day and using an extra simply as trade bait ... although I could EASILY have gotten an extra 4-day without much trouble (as locals are permitted two).  After reading this thread, the thought occurred to me that it's something I could easily do for next year .... however, it's something I've never done or would consider in reality.

I even emailed PB about doing the trade because I wanted to see if I could split up the 4 day pass and camping pass (which they couldn't), but they didn't have a problem with using 4 day passes and TP camping for Nightgrass trade.

Hi Everyone. Interesting conversation. Still looking for Warner or Town Parks. My post says 4 Warners or Townies in the ticket exchange thread. If you know of extras anyone has, I am looking and buying!

Thanks!
