while it is certainly a factor to take into account, didn't single day tickets go on sale prior to the day-by-day lineup being announced this year (and last year too)?

Sure, but that doesn't mean people haven't been doing months of leg work to ensure they have the single-day tickets they wanted -- I just don't see how it could be a good PR response to this very understandable situation for the Planet to shuffle the decks at this point.

That said, I have a four-day pass and I'm not there for any particular act, so whatever happens will be fine with me one way or another.

I believe that is true, but some were sold after.

I just think since it might be unfair to some, they will not do that, and will probably add another act ( although that might be a logistical nightmare given the short notice), or have some kind of Everyone Orchestra of the musicians playing there already.
I guess they could possibly have the bands play two sets, one on their original slot and an added one

I'm actually with you guys on this, and from the get go would've preferred PB had waited to sell those single days until the lineup was substantially in place.

However, by offering up "blind" single days, it seems that PB was effectively saying that one is able to select a day, but not necessarily the content of that day.  Seems to me they would've been perfectly OK had all single days sold out prior to the lineup announcment.  It just so happens that it didn't quite.

Sure - I think a lot of their decisions lend themselves to a strong commitment to a wide selection of music and an attempt to avoid an influx (both to Festival, and to town in general -- it would be a very different scene with so many different people coming up for single days) related to a single band. Selling them blind allows the person who knows they can only make it for Friday and Saturday to buy those tickets without a full pass, but their commitment is to the Festival, not a single artist. I think this is why we saw the single-days go on sale with the passes, and perhaps why there was a late-announce on SCI.

All I know is that I'm confident leaving Tennessee this evening without knowing the Thursday late act the same way I was confident purchasing tickets without any lineup announcement back in December. :-)

Happy Festival everybody!

Fill it with an Old Time Evening of Old Crow and the Chocolate Drops. Or pull the dusters up into the headliner slot that day and see if Pert Near can play that day slot. Or have Steve Martin start his tour with the Steep Canyon Rangers a day early and move them up into the headliner slot. So many choices, Go PB! I'm actually pretty excited to see how this shakes out.

Honestly, REK is the best suggestion in this whole thread.

Greetings from the box office in Telluride!     Wave

Thanks for all the great suggestions.  We're following all these lineup threads -- during the rare breaks from calls / emails to artists over the last couple days.

We've tried many of the artists you've been mentioning.  Everyone we talk to agrees that playing for you guys at the 40th TBF is a gig of a lifetime.  But with families and generally complicated lives, an opening in an artist's touring schedule doesn't necessarily mean they're available to come to Telluride with a few day's notice.

Nothing has confirmed yet... But none of us have been doing a lot of sleeping for the past 3 days, either...

As soon as we know anything, you'll know.

Cheers,
Brian

This guy's a visionary! ;-)

Great job, PB! I haven't seen SCR with Steve Martin before, so I'm super-stoked for this lineup. Plus, keeping SCR on the bill earlier in the day...WIN WIN!

The Goat definitely gets my vote for Festivarian Prognosticator par excellence!

Thing PB made the best of a difficult situation and that anyone who is dissapointed should dance a few days in their shoes...

Kudos to all involved,   not the least of which is Mr. Martin; probably been over 40 years since I last saw Steve live at FSU Student Center.

Keep in mind PB reserves the right to change, alter, Reschedule, regroup as they wish. The disclaimer is plastered everywhere on this forum site and general rules of the festival. Go with the flow, They rarely, if ever disappoint.
