I assume smoking is prohibited in the indoor venues (Palm, Sheridan, FMTTMS, Conference Center).. but does anyone know how diligently that's policed re: greenery?
@ soh, very much so .... 100 year old building and they take it seriously
Wondering why they never restore those historical buildings FOM do you know? curious every time I pass by. I love Historical Buildings but T has some pretty crumbly lookin ones LOL Respect Tride, love the cops and the feel. They love us there and it is a great vibe all around!

Not sure which buildings you're referring to LS ... the one next to Village Market?   Regardless of which one(s), there are certainly some hoops one would have to jump through given Telluride's HARC (historical architectual review committee) rigid guidelines for abiding by the National Historic Distric crititeria ... which is above and beyond the LUC.   I believe Baked in Telluride was able to fast track their rise from the ashes by essentially building a replica of the old building.

Welp I do know first hand that it is a long paper trail  for sure to rescue an old building one I would love to tackle. But to let a building crumble is damaging the historical value of the building. Tell me the very same folks that attend all the fests and activities in town would squak at a 5 surcharge for the sake of the town.  I am referring to that brick building near thr Bakery that has no roof and a black tarp half on. This done correctly would be a landmark. What is the history behind this building? I always wondered about that silly building. I love the town of Telluride and it's charater, this is just one more interesting thing about Tride, the real west...

Well, a restoration would certainly help on the historical landmark rating spectrum ... there's always a big tug-o-war with this status which has been degraded over the years and might place Telluride in danger of losing it's rating.    There's actually a big "re-mapping" (of historical status) recently which has many a realtor & developer up in arms.

As to that particular building, I believe it may have had something to do with horses way back when ... but can't be sure.  I'm pretty certain the current owner of that lot also owns the Stronghouse (studios) directly to the south as well as the property where the Village Market & BIT reside.

It's so sad that not even the history is well known. Now I really want to save this building. Just imagine, that building restored and reopened. Thats a pretty big building. Opertunity lost I would say. Should we start a push to restore FOM?

I'm sure there's an answer to the history of the building at either the Museum or Library's "Telluride Room" (second floor, make a left after stairs and head straight).

It is a relatively large footprint AND happens to be located in a prime location in town.  I'm sure the owners are well aware of this potential for development, but there could be significant issues they're facing re: either development or restoration.  I know they gave up a considerable development potential in fast tracking BIT rebuild by allowing a virtual replica.  They could've held out for MUCH more on that property.   So, who knows maybe they're game for something!

While I find it interesting LS, there's too much for me to push (back) as it stands ... a common theme being special interests subverting the common good in "slow motion".

Your ears must have been "buzzing" LS, just read (in tomorrow's edition 5/8 of the Planet) what appears to be those parcels are going to be developed in the near future:

http://www.telluridenews.com/edition/

... didn't say precisely if it's the historic building remnants, but certainly land right around that area.

Mayor Stu Fraser's comment kind of irked me a bit in so far as perhaps minimizing the historical significance in favor of the "marketing" aspects:

“It’s a major part of the puzzle
of downtown Telluride,” Fraser
said. “It will have tremendous
importance to the future of Tel-
luride. My feeling is it will be
done extremely well. Whatever it
is, it will benefi t the community
in a variety of ways.”

Does sound kind of ominous in terms of any historic restoration, but what else is new? :-(

I think any and all aspects for that property are positive. Telluride is a beautiful place with Historical Landmarks and not to honor this is a tragedy. If I lived there I would plant my white tushee  on the Historical Board. I have met the Building inspector and he is the nicest guy. Everyones afraid of him..... LOL

Thanks for thr follow up! Flower

I figured you'd be interested!

It's possible they might honor the historical significance of the property in some way, but my suspicion is it's probably a long shot to see any sort of replication of the prior building in the design ... although it's certainly possible if there's a big enough push by those interested to see the historical signficance preserved.

Regardless of what happens, I do believe Pamela & John (owners of the property) might be two of best possible private stewards of the land we could possibly ask for.  I'm sure they'll look out for their bottom line, but I do believe they're both socially & environmentally conscious individuals who've looked out for community interests in the past.  I could see it being 100x worse (i.e. Telski).

I have seen the shell of that building and it would be beautiful restored and devided into seperate  suites. A Historical Plaque     would be the very least to just recognize the bones of Tride....there are kids on the planet who do not know who the beatles are.

It is up to us to preserve and the trend    is sad.....do youknow where       milkcomes from. People are very removed in some ways. Sounds like good things are going to happen!

FIR STREET HISTORY – Pamela and John Lifton-Zoline held a historic photo of the Telluride Transfer Warehouse (circa 1906) on Wednesday following the announcement that two have partnered with Meriwether Companies to purchase the lots along South Fir Street for future development. The two say the historic building will act as a “seed element” for what authentic and handsome structures can be built there. The historic structure was built after Telluride’s largest fire destroyed the 43-foot high Red Men’s Opera House. (Photo by Brett Schreckengost)

Back to the subject of this thread... Not that I didn't find the digression fairly interesting, in as much as an outsider can share in, at least.

Know that glass has always been verboten for very good reason. Was curious if bubblers would be acceptable, or if small stealth is still the way to go.

I've usually gone the pre-roll route, but after a few, the other option is sometimes preferable

My personal opinion is that you treat it as illegal as it was last year and years before.  Frown

Next year will be the interesting one.  :)  --just be ready for it to be taxed to the hilt.

This might motivate me to apply for a vendor's booth.  Fritos, Oreos, Bugles, etc.

Any menu suggestions would be appreciated!

LOL Oh this killed me.  Chocolate Chip Cookies please.  Even without the benefit of the green stuff.
