Town Park virgin? Get your answers here!

Can anyone answer when they start selling ice in Town Park?  We are arriving Sunday and I wanted to make sure we can keep all the food cold for the week.  Thanks!

It's hard to say when it will be available, so plan ahead.

Until the ice truck shows up you can get ice in town at the liquor stores or the grocery store.


P.S. I'll be off-line from this Friday through the festival, so don't bother sending me a personal message asking questions. I won't be available to answer them.

I'm a TP virgin and was recently made aware that people have certain spots in TP where they decide to camp. I thought it was just kind of a free for all/wherever you can get a spot, until someone asked me where in TP I was planning to camp... Any advice? A family member will be there Saturday afternoon to pitch the tent and get things settled until I arrive.

Until the ice truck shows up you can get ice in town at the liquor stores or the grocery store.

And there will be kids willing to run to the store and bring you ice on a daily ice run for a small surcharge (and tips, please).   I know that, 'cause I'm bringing them.   Find Camp Billy and ask for the ice kids.   There will be others I'm sure, so if you want to be lazy and support entrepreneurs, it's possible!

It is a free-for-all...with the exception that the historical camps (read:  us old farts) have been camping in the same spots for many years, and have sort of customized our gear for our spots.   The general approach we suggest is this:  wander around, get a feel for the lay of the land, and find a spot that looks good to you.   You'll notice a lot of spots covered with tarps....that's how we hold spots for our friends that are coming.   Pick a good spot, but before you start building camp, introduce yourself to someone nearby, and ask if there's a problem with your choice in spots.   

This is important because some good-looking spots are really poor choices.   There are traffic patterns that develop for pedestrians, and you may have decided to park right in the middle of what becomes a major footpath.   That's fine, but we can help you know what to leave clear. 

Also, the regulars are happy to help you find a spot.   Just ask someone, and they'll walk around with you and help you find a spot.   Eventually, we all fit in very nicely

Stay in Town Park and bring earplugs.  Town Park and High School are the polar opposite of each other.

You'll find room.
You'll get sleep. How much depends on where you camp and how deeply you sleep.
Because of logistical issues only those with the appropriate wristband will be allowed in each individual campground. This is done to protect the festivarians.

Tom is right you will sleep, unless of course Vince Herman is singing Christmas Carols outside. your tent at 4 in the morning. Also if you really can't sleep just head up to Run A Muck and get in the Crunchy Frog line. You still won't be able to sleep, but you won't care!

Now, if successful, it looks like folks can start arriving there the weekend before, so I'd probably like to get there at least by Sunday, latest Monday. Is there any specific time when you can arrive during the day, or does it matter? Since I'd be driving for a few days, chances are we could arrive during the evening.

Officially, Town Park gets turned over to Planet Bluegrass for camping at 8am on the Saturday before the music starts.  Music always starts on a Thursday.  Anytime shortly before or anytime after that is a good time to arrive.  It's a great idea to maximize your time there.

After the Planet takes over Saturday morning and people get in line for land rush, there are no required times for arrival - you can arrive any time you want. As many people will tell you, please be cautious driving the roads to Telluride at night because of the large wildlife that is often in the road.

Recommend a Sunday arrival as well so you don't have to lug your car to Mountain Village - worst case on Sunday you'll have to park in Carhenge on the western part of town and about a 15 minute walk back to Town Park.

- you can arrive any time you want. finding a spot, and setting up camp after dark can be rough!
- As many people will tell you, please be cautious driving the roads to Telluride at night because of the large wildlife that is often in the road. that's fersure!
- worst case on Sunday you'll have to park in Carhenge on the western part of town and about a 15 minute walk back to Town Park. a beautiful path along the river back to fest grounds! (Carhenge= ) My car doesn't move for 8 days...sweetest thing of all after my 1300 mile pilgrimage, so the MV ramp & Ganjala ride is great too.

That path by the river is very nice. That's where I usually go after hiking to soak my feet, or grab a cold brew at the store and smoke a nice cigar, so as not to annoy the folks around me on the tarps. And if the ticket deities do shine on us, I will take my cigars to the river again so as not to drive my fellow campers to distraction.

We have our tickets & a hotel room in Ouray.  Is there a shuttle between Telluride and Ouray during the Festival?
