Looking forward to our first TBF, and lucky enough to be in Town Park!  Are self contained propane fire pits
allowed? If so, is there anywhere in town to refill tanks or do we bring all that we need? I'm an eastern lowlander...not used to high altitudes and freezing nights outdoors! Maybe I can get a down onesie
( like the Michelin Man ) to keep warm.

Yes  Thumbs Up If so, is there anywhere in town to refill tanks or do we bring all that we need? Conoco Station outside of the village near the Lawson Hill camp/Society Dr roundabout. It's quite a hike/ride with a tank. (right BanjoBees?) 4 miles I'm an eastern lowlander...not used to high altitudes and freezing nights outdoors! Maybe I can get a down onesie  ( like the Michelin Man ) to keep warm. The hardware store in town does some exchanges, but I don't know how many they have available? Also don't know if they'll let your car back into town if you drive out to Conoco?

Hi to all!  This is our first time at TP, and I am wondering...can anyone recommend the place to set up camp in the quietest area?  I know that there will be some festivities everywhere, but if there is an area that has a reputation for being a little more subdued, I'd probably like to set up there, at least for the first year! We don't have any kids to consider so we don't have to be right next to the bathrooms.

The primitive area would probably be your best bet. The river will drown out most of the chaos.  Thumbs Up

I agree with Tom, primitive area is probably your best bet. When are you arriving?

Thanks for answering my question! We will be arriving on Friday/Saturday morning-ish. We will also be setting up camp for our friends that are flying in from the east coast. I would love to hear the sound of the river!

Perfect, sounds like you will be there for land rush. You'll  be able to find a nice spot!

Where to set up in TP...
We were TP virgins last year and thank you to everyone; it was a blast! We (4 of us) will be coming to Town Park again this year. I am coming early (Monday) and we wanted to secure a good place (with 23' camper van). I know many of you have your "spots" and I don't want to commit a party foul: should I ask in advance about what spot to take?
Thx,
Yellow Bear

By Monday just about all of the normal vehicle pass spots will be taken, so you'll pretty much have to park it where you can find a spot that's off the road and not blocking anyone or any of the roads in and out.
There has to be room for emergency vehicles to get through Town Park in case someone needs it.
Normally there's a couple spots over near the bridge to the primitive area, but that's not certain.
If it looks like there's a spot, be sure and check with those camped close by in case someone has gone on a grocery run.
Make some new friends and see if they'll let you double up on their spot. Flower

I understand that the passes are pretty much dried up, but do i have any chance of scoring a TP or warner ticket this late in the game?

Of course you do. People have emergencies or changes in plans all the time.
Keep you eye on the Ticket Exchange / Swap as they may show up in late May.

My wife an I were first timers last year and loved every minute of it. We got there on Tuesday and right from the get go met so many great people, and it was truly one of the happiest times I've had in my life. We're bringing our kids this year (21 & 17) because I want them to share in all that is TBGF. I don't think they'll have a proper education without it.

We camped in the primitive area and it was great, although we cut it precariously close getting to the bathrooms at 5am after a long day (and night) of adult hydration Cheers Cheers Flower. We'll be arriving Saturday this year and I'm wondering how it will be throwing down roots for the week in another area. We want to respect the past traditions of the camps, so any advice as to where and how for finding a spot would be appreciated. Ambien solves all problems so not too worried about picking circles going on. Thanks for any help provided. Getting back to Telluride is all I've been focused on since last year and I'm loving the fact that I get to share it with my whole family.

Whenever you arrive, take a walk about. Find a place that looks good and then introduce yourself to the people around you. They can give helpful pointers (like, that's a nice flat spot there but the porto potties that arrive mid-week will be you next door neighbors), and you'll likely make instant friends.  Just introducing yourself and asking goes a really long way.  Flower

Hi Troutbum  Wave
Sounds like you've had your stoke on for the whole year! We love it when newbies catch the vibe and sense of community found here. It's what makes this festival so special. Thank you for spreading that same which you received!  Thumbs Up

Many of us started just like you, and Skube's advice is right on. You didn't mention what time on Saturday you plan on arriving. Planet Bluegrass takes over Town Park campground at 8 am, so any time after that is fine. Walking or riding a bike through the different areas and talking with potential neighbors to see if you like the fit. Most of us are very accommodating and want to help, as someone probably helped us fit in the first couple years. You will definitely find a good spot on Saturday!

It sounds like you are interested in the main campground or the Bear Creek Preserve, and not going back to the Primitive area. You also mention the bigger established camps, not wanting to step on their toes. Many of these camps have been around for not years but decades, and they are very organized to get set up. Some have large numbers and all generally have larger party enclosures to set up their kitchens and entertainment areas. These are the camps who host events before and during the festival, and need the room to do so. If you happen to encroach on 'their established' footprint, they will let you know why one spot won't work, but will show you a good spot to set up. Anyone with a TP pass can generally set up in most places, but start the dialogue if you are trying to squeeze in somewhere. It's all about making new friends and being a part of this festivarian experience, especially in TP before the festival starts. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!  Medal

If you are trying to join one of the bigger camps, use this year to scope out which ones seem like your style and flavor. Often times you will gravitate ... oooh I like that word ... to a group, and before you know it you are asked if you want to join.  :dance

You will see a lot more info here on the forum in the coming weeks as all of us start getting more excited and start posting more. Stay tuned and look for a list of activities happening in TP. Hippie or Telluride Tom among others may broadcast some events. If you do a search of the forum you can see some of the traditions from festivals of old.  EEK!

Hope this has helped. Stay tuned and hope to meet you in Town Park!
Until then ...  Cheers
