My first question is whether it is acceptable to ask a friend who will be there earlier (Monday or Tuesday) to put a tarp down for me?

Amy, "tarp down" idea is a good idea.

TENT LAID OUT OR PUT UP is a better idea.  Thumbs Up

The truth is, once your tent is up your friends will not have to watch the space. Explain, beg, (then bribe) your friends to bring your tent up early. Explain that you don't want to give them the extra burden checking that a "non or new" Festivarian has lifted the tarp laid for you and taken the space, while they were away from camp pre-festivating.

Hey guys! I'll be attending Telluride for the first time ever this year AND I'll be rolling solo. I know my way around a campground pretty well (I hit Delfest in Maryland several times). I guess I want to know where would be the best place to camp to meet good neighbors. Having trouble deciding between MARY E. ILIUM and LAWSON HILL.

Uhm, not sure if it matters.. But I'm 28, no kids, and I'm hopefully going to 2/4 of the Nightgrass shows. Any advice helps! Thanks ya'll!

Rode out to Lawson one evening and couldn't believe the line waiting for the shuttle to take folks to Nightgrass. Flying solo is a misnomer. Nobody flies solo at TBF.  Wink

Just tell me you've read up on the high altitude experience you are about to have, are already packing great things to stay warm, stay dry & not get sunburn, are stoked beyond measure, and know how to scream....

I have not experienced Lawson, but Mary E is a great place full of friendly people. I imagine Lawson is just as friendly. The biggest decision is whether having trees for shade is worth the extra time spent on the shuttle. Lawson is closer to town, so the shuttle ride is shorter, but there's no shade except what you bring yourself. Mary E is a ways outside of town which makes the shuttle ride longer, but it's also full of trees making shade easy to come by.

It's not too late for a solo traveler to find a Town Park ticket.  Being on site would make your NightGrass schedule much more doable.

I'd say Montrose.
Not so much because I live there, but because everything you'll need is pretty much along the main drag going towards Telluride.
In Delta they're a bit more scattered, so if you don't know the town you can have a hard time finding things.

I'd say Montrose.
Not so much because I live there, but because everything you'll need is pretty much along the main drag going towards Telluride.
In Delta they're a bit more scattered, so if you don't know the town you can have a hard time finding things.

I'll second that. You can find it all on the main drag in Montrose. Do try and avoid the first King Soopers on your right. Walmart (left) and Target (right) Super Centers are much cleaner.

OK so at the risk of being sacrificed, I admit I am a Town Park virgin.   Whip

I have read and re-read this entire thread and still have a few questions.  To give background, I am an experienced Festivarian, having attended both Rocky Grass and Folks Fest many times.  I attended TBF in 2011 but stayed in a condo (fortunately as it turned out, with Sunday snow) Even with that I have been wanting to do Town Park ever since and finally am doing it SOLO this year!  Cheers  Lil hombre

I arrive mid-day on Saturday and am wondering:

1. I have a mid-sized tent, one large cooler and a camping chuck box that my gear will be stored in and my stove will be stored on.  Does this sound like a reasonable amount of gear for one person or do I need to try and down size? 
2. I have been given some advice on where to pitch a tent generally, but any further advice on how to pick an area/camp would be appreciated. 
3. Given the events I understand that happen throughout the week, what kind of supplies should I bring to pitch in to the group gatherings/events? I just want to ensure I bring anything needed that might not be readily available in T-Ride.

Thanks so much, I look forward to meeting you all and am certain this FESTIVAAAAL will be the time of my life.

Come for the fest, stay for the pre-fest. Or, more accurately, come for the festival, but arrive 5 to 10 days early for the pre-fest. After 7 years of attending the festival, the pre-fest is a large part of what keeps me coming back every year. The location and music are wonderful, but it truly is the community that makes this the best festival I've attended.
