We are arriving on Thursday early afternoon, and have town park passes. (No car pass) Are we going to be able to drive in and unload our stuff? I understand the campground will be packed, will we be able to squeeze a spot somewhere?

Thanks for your input, TP virgin

Yes, you'll get a two hour pass to drive into Town Park to unload. Keep asking around for a spot the size you need. Sometimes a saved spot is a no-show...Then your car will probably be sent up to the parking structure in Mountain Village. This will give you the wonderful opportunity to ride the Gondola back to town. (Town parking will be full by Thursday)

Hello Telluride Family.. This is the first year me and my fiancé will be bringing our stomping shoes to TBGF as we just moved to Denver from 'ol Kentucky.  A few questions for you lovely folks.  First, when do tickets normally go on sale to the general public? from what I've seen it looks like early december normally.  I'm just curious so I know when I need to have my money saved up by because I know last year they sold out in 8 minutes so I need to be ready to purchase the second they go on sale.  And secondly, we're thinking about probably camping in Mary E. Ilium so we can pay the extra 50$ sand camp beside our car.  What are you'r thoughts on Mary E. Ilium vs Lawson Hill?  I read that Mary E. Ilium is in the woods which sounds much better than in sunlight all day. Also, about how long is the shuttle ride from Mary E. Ilium to the festival since it's 7 miles? Thanks so much for the input.  We're so excited.

Tickets do generally go on sale in early December. It's been about five years since I last stayed in Mary E, but it was a great place to camp. I seem to recall the shuttle ride taking about 15 minutes from departure to arrival, but it's the lines that take the most time. Before a big set, the lines can be half an hour or longer to get on a shuttle. I recommend getting to the fest at the beginning of the day and staying there until you head back for the night. Bring everything you'll need with you in a backpack (food, rain gear, warm clothing, chairs . . .)

Hello everyone! Virgin here as well and planning to make the trip in 2015 with the family, just had a few questions regarding the upcoming camping lottery:
The camping is per person not per site according to the website? So each individual person has to enter the lottery separately? And what happens if not everyone in your group gets a Town Park pass? Does Town Park usually sell out during the lottery?
Sorry about all the questions, it's just the first time I've ever participated in a camping lottery that is per person not per site.

Welcome! I believe kids 12 and under are free in Town Park with a paying adult. AS far as the lottery goes, each person does not need to enter individually. When you enter, you have the option to chose how many tickets you would like, between 1 and 4. So if your number is pulled and you asked for 4 tickets, you'll get those four tickets.

Town Park will sell out during the lottery, no doubt about it. But there will be extra tickets popping up for sale on this forum. Just remember to never pay, sell or offer more than face value. Period. If you have faith and shun the scalpers like a good festivarian, you'll usually be able to find the tickets you're looking for.

A side note to Sugar's statement:
The chances of getting picked in the lottery seem to be getting harder and harder as years go by, so it's probably worth while to have more than one person in your group enter in the lottery.
That way if you both get picked you can sell the extra's you get here on the forum.
Each person can enter for up to four Town Park passes with the stipulation that only two entries per household on different credit cards or checks be used.
Good luck!

That's right, boys and girls...but it's a lot of work trying to get all those tnries in...so you just send those lottery entries to me, at my lawyers office (Duey, Cheetum and Howe) and I'll be sure they all get entered fair and square....you can trust me.    Angel

Best hiking near festival?

Personally my favorite hike is called the Bottleworks Trail.  It goes from the Town Park campground to the Telluride Bottleworks liquor store and back.  Also great is the ever-popular Baked in Telluride Trail, which is parallel to the Bottleworks trail if your starting point is also Town Park.

And there is the Elks Park Spur, a tad north of these two, but also a popular hike from TP.

Hello again! So we didn't get into to either Town Park or Warner Field.
What's the next best?
And should we go with the next best on the 5th, or wait around to try and get camping tickets that people don't want?
Thank you all again!
