One other question....What (and where) is this 'camp host'?  Is the camp host the Planet Bluegrass folks set up and working the gate or something else 'in' the campground?

The camp hosts are official PBG volunteers.  They sell ice and often have quarters for the showers (but bring your own just in case).  They're very helpful when you have questions, and I think the lost and found is housed there.  They're to your left as you enter TP at the round-about.

This isn't necessarily specific to Town Park, but how are the grocery stores in Telluride? Should I stock up before I get there, or are there good groceries in town? I'm thinking there probably are, but, you never know.

I am camping in Townpark with my son.  My husband has to work, but is hopefully driving down for Sunday...any way he could camp with us Sunday night?!?

Sorry, but not without a Town Park camping pass.
Even if he has a festival ticket he'd have to also purchase a Lawson Hill camping pass just to stay the night there.

We're camping at Warner field and I know the campground opens at 9am on Wednesday.  What are the procedures and timelines for staging for the opening?

First timer here.  Bringing kids (3 and 5).  We'll be rollin' in a little red wagon - hoping we can load it on the gondola.  Anyway, what's the deal with chairs?  The FAQ says low back only if you want to be in front of the sound-booth.   Where is the sound-booth?  Are regular 'camping' chairs ok if I'm in the shade tent area?

Thanks everyone, just not what I had expected. I didn't know there was a tarp run...seems wrong to me like, first come, first served, no spot saving for days...it screws people like us. It will all be fine and I'm sure we'll find a place that is ok but I'd be lying if I said I was as excited as I was...now seems stressful. We get 30 minutes to scout for a spot, make friends, get invited to put camp there and then fully unload; that's nuts.

Hey Scrogans! Last year was my first year in TP. We got in about 4 on Tuesday. We had no problem finding a spot and actually were pumped at camping by the river. I admit I had some anxiety when we first got there about having come too late and what not. That went away immediately after we got set up. Like Al says, everything works. I've been looking forward to getting back since June last year when we left. It really was one of the best times I've ever had because of all the great people in TP. As a result I'm bringing my son and daughter with so they can have the same experience.

I'd say enjoy the journey for what it's worth. You're in a fortunate group that is lucky enough to be in TP for this great festival.

What a great time I had my first time at TBGF in Town Park campground. We left Denver late Monday night, pulled into TP around 6 am, found an awesome spot for three tents right on the bank of the river, Bridal Veil in view from our canopy. We could hear much of the music right from camp. What a wonderful community. I heard Yonder Mountain String Band playing in the campground Tuesday night, ate at a lovely potluck supper on Wednesday. Really an awesome time.

The experience was not without setbacks. I have asthma and COPD, and the thin oxygen was not good for me at all. I ended up at the ER in town on Saturday (the PB staff and Telluride EMTs were so helpful - clearly I was not the first to have that problem), and we left on Sunday morning, unfortunately. I'm a huge Elephant Revival fan and really looked forward to hearing them at Telluride.

The scenery, the town, the music, the people, the festival operation: all first rate!

I cannot find information anywhere on what the typical cost is for Town Park camping (which I know includes the 4-day pass). Can you give me an idea as to what the cost has been in recent years? Also, I understand there is a lottery system for this, but I also hear that people meet up there year after year. How difficult is it to "win" the lottery?  Thanks in advance for any clarity you can provide!

I believe the TP passes are around 350, and the lottery starts Nov. 6th. Can't answer your question on how likely you are to score them in the lottery. If you don't get them its still worth it to go and camp in another campground.

350 was the price last year. They'll let us know within the week. TP camping has become difficult to get in the lottery, but there are often people selling theirs' on this forum under The Shop 'Exchange/Swap' section. This is the best place to look for those. Don't go to Craigslist as we actively try and keep scalpers to a minimum.  People here will always sell at face value ... always buy at face value please!

The TP and the adjacent Warner field ticket includes the 4 day festival pass. TP allows you to start camping on the Saturday before the festival starts, Warner loads in on Wednesday. If you do not plan on getting here until Wednesday, the Warner field pass will be easier to acquire. They both allow unfettered access to both camping areas.

As far as total money, that depends on how much you spend in town, and of course in the venue. Between the Merc tent and beer tent, you could easily spend hundreds. I plan on spending several hundred in town and the same in the venue, but that's all you.

Last year we camped for 9 nights. We ate most of our breakfasts in camp, and our lunches and dinners pre-fest in camp. Once Festival officially started we ate all our lunch and dinner meals in town, or in the venue (some really great affordable food). We probably spent 300 dollars on merch and other items sold by vendors, and near the same at the beer/booze tent over the 4 days of fest. I'd suggest buying groceries, and booze in your hometown, as it's quite pricey in Telluride, but if you run out you can find most anything you need. Including gas for our 16 hour drive, grocery, booze, fun stuff, venue vendors, and venue booze between my wife and I we'll probably spend 1700 excluding tickets over the  9 nights we plan on being in Telluride at TBF 2018. But its my wifes birthday week, and we're there to have fun. Better and cheaper than most vacations.
