Questions re: onsite camping line

Well, it looks like I may get an onsite camping pass.  This will be my first time camping at RockyGrass, and I'll be by myself.  I've read the rules posted here, but I'm still not really clear on how the line for camping works.  Do you bring your car on Sunday or Monday and then just bake in the open field for 4 days, sleeping in said car?  Is there any alternative to that if you want a decent camping site?  (I'm looking for a shady tent spot so I can store my instruments in there during the day.)  Is there anywhere else in town you can camp between Sunday and Thursday?  If we have to stay with our cars, does anybody set up any EZ-ups or other shade structures during the day?  It seems like a pretty harsh procedure, especially if it's as hot as it was last year. 

Thanks for any clarification, guys!  Can't wait for RockyGrass this year.  The line-up is ridiculous!

Hi Linds,
You can put your car in line, starting on Sunday at 4pm. Pay the appropriate fee, get your number, then leave it there until you're ready to drive in on Thursday evening. Make sure you're back in plenty of time, as the line waits for no one...! And, yes, people do put up EZ-ups during the day...

the line starts and vehicles are given numbers at a certain time at Meadow Park (academy) or Bohn (others) with a "please do not show up before then" comment/request from PB.  Where do folks generally gather in order to be there and get in line at the appointed time?   As if there is a line before the real line kind of thing.  Or do folks just show up and clog the highway until the PB folks start letting campers into the applicable camping/line area.  This is all too stressful but I'd really like to know the answer to that question so there is less stress for all involved while we can get a good line number in order to get a good camping spot, which is the point of getting there and getting in line early.  As with the initiator of this thread, thanks for any thoughts/advice.  I wanna be a good festivarian at RG so please help, Oh-Bee-Wahn-Kanobee

We weren't camping in either MP or On-site last year and didn't know the drill.  Showed up at the best/worst time to "cut' in line (inadvertently) while those legitimately in line were stuck at the main stop-light at the highway leading into PB.  I thought we were going to be shot or something by the way the other campers and the PB staff treated us. We looked at each other with the "what the hell ... why so up tight dudes?  Now we know why.  wanna avoid that this year

I think he is asking where he should wait prior to the actually time of 4pm on Sunday. Is there a line before the line?  I want to also get a good spot and thought we would have lunch in lyons on Sunday and wait for the actually line to start.

If we started the line in June, this same question would come up, so I'm not sure how to answer this question sufficiently.

I would answer that with something along the lines of, "Please don't come before the line starts".

Plan on having a late lunch in Lyons and do some shopping after if you must come earlier, but nobody has any right to "be first" in a "line for the line."

Dustin, my question was actually regarding what you do in line between Sunday and Thursday, especially if you can't set up a tent and actually camp there.  I actually think I won't be arriving until Thursday, if I get to come at all (work issues).  There's no way I can sleep in a hot car, much less leave instruments in there, for 5 days.  Plus, I kind of need my car to get to work, or a hotel, etc.  Here's hoping I can actually get a spot in the onsite campground if I arrive late!

You say that like 45 is a bad thing...I mean seriously, it just does not matter that much.  No matter where you camp you bound to have an amazing time!

There will be a spot for you no matter when you arrive. The line is an optional part of the experience. Most of the people who do the line are looking for a very specific area that their group has camped in for years...most campers do not get in line early, they arrive on Thursday.

The fact that people go crazy over numbers in line is one of several reasons I'm camping in Meadow Park this year.  I simply got fed up last year between the craziness of getting in and setting up, being super crammed no matter where you were onsite unless you were on the roads themselves, and the fact people get into such an uproar to the point I saw & experienced emotions that are not what Rockygrass is about.

I personally think some folks truly need to take a step back on this...really! Oh well...at least I did!   

The lineup and arrangment to get in Meadow Park yesterday was far more mellower too;  not a coincedence.

Little secret to ya is Meadowpark is a better camping experience than onsite, i did it for years, then got fed up with the crowds, prefer the calm experience that is MP.  As example, last night the place was quiet by 930.  Now as we get closer to festival, the action picks up but it is always serene, and easy to sleep.
