hey anne . i've been driving to telluride via los angeles  for 7 years straight . i drive alone too and my first year i was very nervous . i've never been on a long trip like this before . my first year driving i drove to flagstaff which took about 7-8 hours . and then drove from flagstaff to telluride . flagstaff is about half way between . the drive is AMAZING!! you have to do it at least once !!

Ross, do you still do the drive alone? Could you be up for a carpool to T'ride? Maybe y'all should talk off list. Just a thought.

Can't agree more. I usually go accross Nevada on 50 and into Utah, and with every mile I get more and more excited. The anticipation is awesome....and when you finally round that last corner and Telluride coems into view you wanna cry!

Top Dog you can do it. You really get to become friends with yourself on the way! The country is gorgeous. In 07 I drove to Moab from Telluride, got in around midnight, then left Moab at 5:00AM drove straight through to Elk Grove, CA in one day

First fest I rolled into back in '89, I left the Telluride Valley after the SUnday night acts, and rolled straight into the Bay Area. 

But I was a lot younger.  And the drugs were better.

Yep we will roll out Sunday night but just into Moab for the night. Much younger.....and much better.....but I didn't 10,000 Bluegrass songs on my iPod either!

topdog welcome.  I live in Flagstaff. You are probably looking at about a 7 hour drive to Flag then 7 or 8 to Telluride depending on pit stops. The drive to Flag is interesting then the drive from Flag to Telluride is totally amazing if you have never done that. You will drive across the Navajo Reservation past the Painted Desert and then cross the San Juan over  into Colorado. From there it is even more amazing as you round a bend out there on the highway you move from high desert plains and mesas and canyons into the Southwestern Colorado desert and all of a sudden you round another bend and drive through Cortez and in 20 minutes start driving up into the San Juan Mountains in my opinion the nicest mountains on the continent (and I grew up in the Appalachians and love 'em to death). Two hrs past Flag you will hit Tuba City I recommend the local restaurant on the near right hand corner at the traffic light. Then there is not much till Cortez where they do a pretty good burger and stout at the brewery on the right in the middle of town. That should get you to Telluride. Don't count on a lot of gas stations past Flag so get some in Kayenta and again in Cortez or Dolores.

Thanks, I've been as far as Flagstaff & the Grand Cyn before, a couple of times.  The rest will be new!  I've been to other parts of the Rockies and I know I won't be disappointed!

Ok- As long as we are talking driving..... From Tucson To Tride.. The way we normally go is Tucson- Showlow- Holbrook- 40 TO Gallup and then up 666... Is this the best way?

Hooch is right. Being willing to be a worker bee will gain you status with an established camp.

Definitely feats of strength will go a long way. 

Can you chop down a tree?  Are you able to leap tall buildings with a single bound?  How many tarps can you carry at once?  How fast can you run?  Do you have any physical limitations that would prevent you from carrying things?

Are you strong enough to lift a shot glass full of Crunchy Frog?  You'll be just fine.
