Thanks for all the tips and pearls of wisdom....much appreciated! Thumbs Up
I have got to admit, cold weather isn't my best friend.... i live in the sub tropics where we consider it freezing when we have to wear long pants!
Sounds like a trip to one of the local outfitters in Denver or Tulleride to grab a couple of cold/wet weather essentials.
As far as the tent goes, I am hoping to get one of the local event hire places to erect an Australian Embassy on site before we arrive... then all we need is some air beds and sleeping bags which we can hopefully leave with someone in the US ready for the next visit in 2014!
Tell me please.... do they allow camp fires in the camp ground?
I am sure these questions are answered elsewhere as Tom says.... but it's time I left the computer and tuned my g'day (That's GDAE - Mando - if you hadn't already guessed it!).
Cheers
 Cheers
Rob

No campfires. While they are erecting your tent have them add a heatlamp or two - maybe they'll throw in some free marshmallows.

Heat lamps!? We are talking real proper cold (potentially)! Frown
That's a big yes to the heat lamps then.... Thumbs Up
Can you tell me how big the camp sites are.... ie.. how big can we go with the tent? There could be a few of us and I know at least two of the other guys snore! LOL
Cheers

It's possible too that many of the "veterans" can help you with gear- we can just bring extras for you all... Also, I don't know how it would work from Australia but some people have shipped items to themselves to be delivered in Telluride...or you could get things bought from something like REI or another clothing catalog and there may be some festivarians that may be able to have it shipped to them and brought to you... Prices in the Telluride boutiques for winter clothing and gear are going to be about as expensive as you can find.. It would be much better to purchase elsewhere ( Denver when you arrive or online somewhere)

Ok - where do you fly in? Los Angeles? New York? Summer tour, or just for this fest?

Remember - a banjo players best friend....Opt Shop/Thrift Store.
Bring the banjo and forget the clothing until arrival. OK, not all the clothing, but most of it anyhow.

Before you go any further, let me invite you and the new Aussie crew to read this forum at length ( you have plenty of time). Take Jason up on his invitation for information. The man knows what he's doing. Trust us on that point!  Thumbs Up

Camping: you really have two options for "close by". One has been mentioned but the other would be Warner Field. It is actually closer to the festi-field. Nothing like waking up to the sound of bagpipes signaling the start of the Tarp Run! Lots of cool folks camp in Warner and you'd still have full access to the other campground, which is less than a football kick away.

By the way, the entire town is about 1500 meters long. It's slow walking at first because of the altitude, but very do-able.

The Festivarian Family truly understand your excitement. It happens to us every year!!!

If you rent gear from REI, try to reserve it before you get out here.  I'm not sure how much demand there is in Denver around TBF, but when I was looking into renting equipment at the Nashville store for Bonnaroo, I was told to reserve my stuff months in advance.  Of course, there aren't that many REIs close to there, and Bonnaroo is 100,000 people as opposed to something like 10,000 at Telly, but a reservation can't hurt!

Hell.... that is just fantastic! Thank you so much Debbie for such a kind thought.... I am already blown away by TBF and its community I haven't even been there! As the time approaches and we KNOW we have tickets, I will definitely  follow up re the extras from some veterans. That would be an enormous help. Of course, if the "vets" don't have the extras we need then maybe we could buy some gear and leave it with you fantastic people for future TB Festivals.... I have a very sneaky suspicion our first in 2013 will NOT be our last!
I have to say I am not familiar with REI.... It sounds like they sell everything to do with the outdoors and camping.... does that include winter clothing?
Thanks again
 Cheers
Rob

See backcountry.com, too.  They tend to have good deals.

Truly can't believe how helpful this TBF community is! Thank you so much for the offer... I will certainly be in touch as the time draws near and we have our tickets confirmed  :)
Tell me... where did you spend your three years in OZ?
Can't wait to catch up in 2013
 Cheers
