Hi:

I have been to Folks Fest twice and decided to go to Rocky Grass this year.  The two times to the festival I've seen people with canopies along the stream on the festival site, and frankly I was jealous.  I would like to set up a canopy along the stream this year at Rocky Grass and would appreciate any recommendations for accomplishing this.  Get in line a couple of hours before the gates open?

Thanks

The best way to guarantee any spot is to get a good number in line the night before.  If you were in the first 75 or so numbers I would bet you could get a canopy on the edge set up.  Most people want to be up front.

I don't know about RockyGrass, but at Folks Fest the shade tent spots along the river are very popular.  I imagine the same goes for Rocky Grass.

Last year at Folks, the best number we had was 16.  My 14 year old grandson was my tarp runner.  He tried for a spot along the side by the river and when he got there they were all taken.

Getting in line a few hours before gates opening will not cut it.

Thanks for the replies.

What are the "numbers" mentioned in the two replies?  I have been to Folks Fest twice and do not recall any numbers.  Are numbers assigned to those who get in line before the gates open?

Thanks

Each night you can get in line after midnight to get a ticket.  The number on your ticket is the place in line the next morning for entrance to the festival.  The lines start Thursday for Friday morning.  It is basically a lottery each night for your place n line.

Yep, this is the famous TARP LINE.

On the Planet Bluegrass site, go to Rocky Grass, then Info, then Guidelines, scroll down to Tarp Line Policy.
www.bluegrass.com/rockygrass/rules.html

The rules say the line starts at midnight, but I've noticed people start lining up at 11:00.  The line forms on the path and PB wants to make sure it doesn't form while people are trying to leave after the last show.

On average, the numbers are handed out sometime between 12:30 and 2 am.  Although, one time it was 3:30.

People with numbers are first into the festival grounds and are allowed to take in one tarp to stake their spot for the day.
