Being a good southern boy, in particularly, a good ole boy from NC, I am going to have a hard time going a couple of days without any BBQ or shine or Sundrop.  So my question is, where can I find some?  Are there any Festival BBQ contests that need an inexperienced judge?  Is shipping shine allowed?  What about sundrop?  Can I find that golden mixer in telluride?... Cheers

I'll say, being a Memphian, that the BBQ joint in town (name escapes me) sure isn't bad for a rest indoors but it's sure not what I'm used to down here (and probably won't be what you're used to from back east).

I expect people do some fancy things at camp that I'm not privy to, though, being a condo-dweller  ;-)

Thanks Zach.  If you plan on doing any ribs let me know.  I'm camping in warner and it doesn't look like much outdoor cooking goes on there.  Maybe someone from the Townpark area is having a good ole fashion pig pickin.

No such luck on the Q in Tride, it pales in comparison to the old tried 'n true gold standard that is North Carolina eastern style BBQ, fine chopped and vinegar based, with some sweet tea, hushpuppies,  & New Brunswick Stew on the side.  Of course, western chunked, tomato based Q rocks the house as well! That being said, the vendor outside Fly Me To The Moon Saloon serves up a nice Cuban bbq combo samich that has me coming back for more every time. 

If you bring the shine, and come prior to Rumballs Wednesday, that would be a very appropriate concoction to add to the swill. 

Sundrop is rarely found in Colorado.  For that matter, same with Cheerwine.  Or Wink.  The closest is Mello Yello, unfortunately.  Remember, i owe you 3 New Belgium Beers for your fantastic anti-Cryolina comments!

The best Q you'll find in T-ride is in Town Park, and Kaptain Karlos isn't going to be at the fest this year, so there one less chance of finding some decent BBQ.

BBQ just isn't Telluride's thing, unfortunately.  You can get Killer Flank Steak inside the festival.  I remember one year some guy was doing turkey legs and some BBQ, but I think that was a one-off, haven't seen him since . . .

Bring the 'shine, though, and you'll find some mixers fer sure!  No Cheerwine, Wink, or Sundrop, but you might find some Squirt on the drive in . . .

There's no need for a BBQ judge in Townpark, but there will 'other' events that will be judged . . . just sayin'

You can get Killer Flank Steak inside the festival.  No Cheerwine, Wink, or Sundrop, but you might find some Squirt on the drive in . . .


As ERNDOOOGGG knows, your best bet is Wink as a close approximation, or you may find some Ting if you head south, and Gapple, you must try the Killer Flank Steak, be sure to apply large amounts of hot sauce, Cholulah or however it's spelled, it goes real well on that sandwich, along with salt! Oh shit, i'm getting hungry now.

Although it won't be as stellar as NC-style BBQ, Smugglers Inn in town does a pretty decent job with their ribs.  Check them out.  Other than that, although the Killer flank-steaks at the Festival aren't bbq .. they hold a high position in their own right!

 Wave I know its not exactly the same but how about doing your Q at home, wrapping it up and re-heating once at Fest? Ribs and pulled pork travel very well.

You will be highly disappointed with the options in town, and pretty sure they don't have any inside the festival (and if they did, must not be that great or it would have been mentioned).

Flanksteak sandwich is a must have, but I have one word for you:
