Thanks HarleyD for setting the record straight about the south. I'm a southerner too and get tired of people thinking everyone's a racist down there. defending whats good about the south takes a lot of energy... BTW, did you know the KKK's largest membership ever was in good ol Denver Co.? Yep. So much for that stereotype.  But I digress.
Zac Brown had charisma! That chicken song had me laughing hard! I too was extremely tired of 'Devil went down to Ga.' when it came out, but hey, I've heard Blackberry Blossom and Rockytop a thousand times too but it's how its done that counts. I enjoyed 'em, and I hope they're invited back, although I think they should be one of the night bands. They made me wanna drink whiskey and dance around....like a southern redneck!

Brian,

I know you are a Forum Addict but, brother, this is one of the prices of addiction (i.e. reading every post). Now that you see how your addiction takes away the joy in a buzz hopefully you will learn how to let some posts go and choose to ignore certain posters. It's for your health, my brother!  Wink

Now as Abraham Lincoln said in Bill&Ted's Excellent Adventure " Now, party on, dude!"  Devil

Well Billy, once again you have nailed it! I will now commence the partying! Thanks for setting it straight for me.  LOL

Are you kidding me?  Their presence was a disgrace to fans that come from near and far to see world class musicianship, not dumb downed pop country crap.  I could not believe Planet Bluegrass invited them to grace the same stage that has hosted the likes of Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, John Hartford and Vassar.

I even gave them a chance until Abercrombie Zach called Charlie Daneils his hero and proceeded to play the most overplayed overated cover song ever.  Not to mention, calling Charlie Daniels your personal hero?  Do his other heros include Bob Jones or David Allen Coe (insert southern racist here).

I'm sorry, you don't know what you are talking about. Zac Brown is about as far from "pop country crap" as you can get.

Not only is his country music original and distinct, he is about the music. I witnessed this firsthand Thursday night at the Fly Me to the Moon Saloon. Toward the end of the Oakhurst's first set, Zac Brown and his band showed up and hung out in the audience. During the set break, I approached him and he was very nice to talk to. But that's neither here nor there. What made the night special was when he took his band on stage with Oakhurst and proceeded to play "Rollout" by Ludicris. I never thought I'd hear the words, "Can you make that fiddle cry" during a Ludicris refrain before, but man am I glad I did! It was one of the highlights of the week!

Thanks goes out to Planet Bluegrass for inviting the Zac Brown Band. They not only belonged there, they helped make the entire week special for many who came to watch bluegrass and ended up learning about other talented musicians along the way.

I videotaped the song on my Nikon and have it on my MySpace page. Yes, I'm one of the few who hasn't converted to FaceBook yet. As soon as I figure out how to post it to YouTube, I will. When that happens, I'll post a link on here for those that want to check it out.

Actually, you don't know what you are talking about, check this out. Sure seems like pop country crap to me:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0-VOI1l9H4

I totally agree.

I was expecting this to be a pretty good set, bought their CD for the drive to Telluride and was thoroughly impressed. I really think that we can expect some big things from these guys in the future.

This was the band I was determined not to like!! All I had heard was that they were "commercial country".  I wanted no part of them!!    Mad  Of course they totally blew me out of the water!!! Bought the CD and listened to it a bunch on the way home to SoCal LOL  Thanks Planet Bluegrass for challenging my musical tastes Thumbs Up Big Al

"All I had heard was that they were "commercial country""

Yeah, this sure isn't commercial country. Good take though (eye roll).

Watched all the video you shared. Have you listened to pop country lately, it all sounds like this. Pop country can't decide if it wants to be twangy rock n roll, or twangy hick hop. He's definitely not your daddy's country. I'll stick to Willie, Waylon and Merle as far as pop country goes. Saw ZBB years ago, and was not blown away. Now Sturgil or Tyler Childers, they are taking "pop" country to the next level, without the gimmicks. ZBB would be best being a bit more rock and moving to the southern rock area of music genre's, when I saw them just reminded me of a bit more country Kid Rock. Just my opinion, and I know I like lots of stuff that plenty of others think is crap, so don't take my opinion too serious.

I saw them play the Monte Rio Talent show in Sonoma County many years ago.  I can't give an honest opinion since the band obviously did not want to be playing this gig.  It was 3 tunes only, get em on, get em off, kind of show.  Put on and paid for by the Bohemians, so $$$ probably enticed them.

Absolutely had no idea who they were and have no recollection of what they played.

Listened to a few tracks since and ,,, has hooks, well crafted... product. mho
